Commercial Description:
First released in 2002, and sold out in two weeks. A tribute to the classic Fest styles of Germany the O'Fish uses European malts hops and yeast. A beautiful reddish color, a savory malt profile and nice hop flavor, make this Fest beer quite drinkable. OktoberFish is great with food and especially great with Lederhosen.

Malts: Muessdoerffer Munich, Muessdoerffer Vienna, Pauls Amber, Dingemanns De-Bittered Black and Two-row pale
Hops: Horizon, Crystal
Yeast: Dusseldorf Alt
Original Gravity: 14.3 Plato
Formats: 1/2 kegs, 1/6 kegs, cask-conditioned
Availability: September 1 to November 1 (if it lasts that long)

This is part of a beer club. Had only one bottle but was decent for the price. Poured great and had a nice finish. Would do again.

Pours with a very thin near-white head, quickly and mostly fading to white oily swirls atop a translucent amber and orange tinted body. The aroma is of sweet Munich malt, bread dough, soft cereal grains, fresh grassy hops and lightly burned brown sugars. Light spicy notes that stem from lemon and orange hints flow freely, in limited quantity. The nose is fresh, amiable and pleasant. No flaws noted. The flavor is full of bready malt and lesser caramel. Grassy hops are everywhere and striking. Fruitiness is mellow, bitterness is substantial and refreshing. Sweetness is caramel dominant and medium. The finish is breay and lightly sweet, caramel and Munich malts lingering. Alcohol is too noticeable. The mouthfeel is softly and adequately carbonated, light-medium bodied and somewhat easy to drink. An uninteresting style well made, though it could be so much more refreshing.

Draught: Sweet aroma. Smells of malts and floral hops. Poured copper/amber in color with a medium-sized, rocky, off-white head that diminished. No lacing. Sparkling. Sweet flavor. Tastes of floral hops and sweet malts. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Sweet hop finish. Not really an Oktoberfest or an Alt.

Nov. 2005 - Okay...it wasn’t skunky, but something is just not right. The beer looked beautiful. Okay, now that I got that out of the way...the beer smelled awful...like dirty old sweatsocks. eaglefan538 said it didn’t taste as bad as it smelled, but he lied. It tasted exactly like it smelled...like old sweaty socks. Nasty

12oz from MrBendo - thanks, Todd! Very fine example of a style I usually don’t care for. Very fruity and colorful malt presence is what does it, drinkable but rich with a mild spice (from hops or additional ingredients) that’s just the ticket.

12oz bottle - 2006 version, so 1 year old, which means I’ll do a rerate as soon as I get ahold of the 2007. Color is dark golden brown, and body is clear. Small white filmy head. Candied sweet caramel malt nose with some light orange notes as well... but overall it smells very striaghtforward and sweet. Flavor is just a little too sweet up front, then over the middle it has some stewed corn and cabbage with brown sugar and maple flavors - good stuff. Finished with a wet caramel malt and grain flavor. Decent, but tasted side-by-side with Stoudt’s Oktoberfest it comes up short. I realize this is supposed to be an altbier, so I was hoping for more crisp hops and snappy biscuit malts. Still good.
