It has a very light aroma of coffee and roasted malt. Body is light to medium with moderate carbonation. The flavor is mildly roasted with coffeeish notes of espresso and chocolate. A good porter to drink as a session brew. ConiseurofBeer (241), Downingtown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | Mar 23, 2003 Not much of an aroma on this one. Dark porter appearance with a thin off white head. Strong coffee flavors with choclate undertones. This beer seemed a little thin on the palate, but still, very enjoyable. Yankovitch333 (612), Chesapeake City, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 7, 2003 Dark brown with a reddish hue. Thick creamy tan head that lingers. Aroma is sweet and roasted. Reminded me a lot of Iron Hill Pig Iron Porter. Flavor is roasted coffee and burnt chocolate. Slightly dry finish, but there was something about the finish I didn't like and I can't place my finger on it. Overall this isn't a bad beer. CaptainCougar (5530), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Aroma is sweet, earthy and milk chocolatey. Body starts with a smooth chocolatey sweetness, some earthy bittering hops and mild complexity. A nice porter, but not as good as the first time I tried it.
Bottle at RAF 2003: Pour is a dark brown with a full creamy head. Sweet, soft roasted malt aroma. Great interplay between sweet and sour throughout the palate finishing smooth and sweet like butter toffee. Good amount of complexity and very smooth. I was quite impressed with this beer, although it appears most were not. jskendzel (602), Washington DC, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 6, 2003 Decent - but not as good as I has expected. Of course, I did try this a few days after trying Sierra Nevada Porter (which was excellent) for the first time. Something should have been better about this one - seemed a bit watery. This was pretty good all around but nothing spectacular. Pours an opaque black with a ruby tinge. Medium thick foamy beige head that lasted quite nicely. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is a little thin and tastes like mocha and malt. Hops lend to a slightly bitter finish. Not too bad but I have had better.
