Aroma of chocolate and coffee and a bit of floral hops. Flavor is much the same. Nice hoppy finish that I liked much. Palate is medium bodied with pretty lively carbonation. Nice coffee bitter finish that I liked alot. This is a pretty nice porter. I enjoyed it! GuilTTy (538), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 27, 2005 Poured like a dark stained cherry wood supporting a silky khaki head. So much coffee in the aroma that you could mistake this for a Starbucks venti Breakfast Blend. Roasted malt, vanilla, caramel and chocolate rounded out the aroma. Flavor was very heavily influenced by chocolate and coffee with a nice hoppy kick. The mouthfeel was a tad thin and the finish was a bit weak for a porter but not unpleasant. Overall, a pretty good porter that reminded me a lot of Grants Perfect Porter without the smokey notes. A little more body would make this a very nice beer. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 18, 2005 Poured from bottle, looked a bit light for a porter. But I was surprised with it’s unique flavor (sweet malt) and feel (not oily). Finished OK as well. jsquire (2115), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 15, 2005 This beer pours out of the bottle with a very dark garnet red color when held up to the light with a loose beige head that shrinks to a slick relatively quickly. Big blast of roast coffee and chocolate in the nose as I poured it. Lots of almost burnt toast, dark chocolate, ash and an almost berry fruitiness. The beer thins out and sweetens as it warms. Finish is stale coffee bitterness. This is a porter I would gladly try again. jefcon (1007), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2005 Sweet chocolate and some roast coffee on the nose. A little dark fruit to the sweetness, especially plum. The beer itself is a dark brown/ruby in the glass. Tasting begins with a chocolate dominance, but the sweet flavor fades into a slightly acidic palate with medium mouthfeel. Coffee and tart plum on the finish. The acidity changes the style somewhat, but it is nice to see a different approach to the American porter. jasonp (1513), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jul 30, 2005 Dark brown with ruby red edges and a small beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and ovaltine. Flavor consists of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Not that sweet, had only a hint of roasty bitterness at the end. Disappointing thin/watery mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Not bad but very average and boring. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA
