I am not going to add much to what’s already been said. I am a porter fan, but the vaguely pastryish/doughy aroma alluded to in another review interfered with the experience of the beer. Overall it was a decent beer, but I would not order it again.

Dark red, thin head. Ripe cherries in aroma. Frothy, medium mouthfeel. Cherries, chocolate and hints of roast. Clean finish. Good, but not very complex.

At NJ Craft Brew Fest 2005: A great porter, I think the only true dark ale available that day (though, it was 92 degrees, so i guess thats ok.) A solid beer that I would definitely want to return to again. Has a hearty flavor that many porters lack.

Pours dark brown, with a tan/white head. Aromas of chocolate, brown sugar, coffee, and roasted malt. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee. Body is medium. This is a pretty good regular, everyday type of porter.

Nearly black pour with nearly no head - mildly sweet aroma with brown sugar, coffee, some cookie/pastry-ish smell - very roasty flavor, some sweetness up front, some plum and chocolate - smooth mouthfeel - a very solid porter, but it doesn’t really stand out.

Cask. Dark brown with a huge tan head. Mild roasted malt aroma with a bit of coffee. Flavor was the same as the aroma. Coming from the hand pumped cask, the beer was incredibly smooth but a bit too mild in flavor.

Bottle. Poured A deep brown. Medium tan head, hung around awhile and left more then adequate lacing. Nose had roasted malts, chocolate coffee. Mouth feel was moderate, with a good bitter hop finish.

Bottle from Lou18. Deep chestnut colored with a nice tan head. Good lacing. Enticing aroma of chocolate and nuts, a bit estery. Medium bodied. Good carbonation. Nice chocolate sweetness up front in flavor, hops pick up towards the end to provide a subtle bitterness for balance. Decent.
