| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 5, 2004 Deep brown. Nice foamy tan head. Creamy mouthfeel, smooth. Typical porter nose with sweet chocolate and mild roastiness. Sweet on the tongue, milky, chocolatey, cookie-ish. Reminiscent of an oatmeal stout at times. Very subdued hop presence. Bigger than most with lots of traits resembling a sweet stout, but unfortunately becomes less and less interesting sips after sips. Complexity is just lacking. Aroma is sweet, earthy and milk chocolatey. Body starts with a smooth chocolatey sweetness, some earthy bittering hops and mild complexity. A nice porter, but not as good as the first time I tried it.
Bottle at RAF 2003: Pour is a dark brown with a full creamy head. Sweet, soft roasted malt aroma. Great interplay between sweet and sour throughout the palate finishing smooth and sweet like butter toffee. Good amount of complexity and very smooth. I was quite impressed with this beer, although it appears most were not. hopscotch (5490), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Crystal clear, dark, crimson ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. The nose is of vanilla, milk chocolate and Kahlua. Nice, roasty flavor with plenty of balance. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. World class brew. Underrated!
