Bottle - big, strong roasted coffee nose. I find that stouts and porters are difficult to separate, they all look fairly similar. This one is nice - quite black with a medium brown head. Flavor has plenty of roasted malt. Is quite dry with roast in the finish. Palate is maybe a touch thin, but not overly so. Really enjoyed this one!

(Rating #1231)

The label looked like Gerry Garcia playing a Flying Monkey from the Wizard of Oz. The beer pours a deep mahogany with a small tan head. Notes of sweet caramel malt, bitter coffee, smoke, and chocolate. Medium body. The flavor was bittersweet. An average beer.

(Bottle) Trade with Ughsmash. Thanks for another tick through America’s Midwest. Pour a thin, beige head with an opaque body. Nose of strong molasses and coffee. Flavours of very smoked malt and mild unsweetened chocolate. I’m rather impressed - seems like a smoked porter on coffee wings. Very likable!

12-oz. Thanks, Theisti! Pours deep opaque black with a thin, grayish head. Decent lace. Humongous smoky nose, charred, a bit of anise. Lightish body, slightly fizzy, very forward smoke and char and anise on the attack--these flavors persist through the mid-palate. Kind of a hollow, ashy finish.

12oz bottle. Poured a dark black (with brown edges) and an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of roast, chocoalte, and light coffee. Tastes of roast and coffee. Tastes on the thin side. Body thin and watery.
