rader58 (166), Leawood, Kansas, USA Jul 11, 2008 Pours to an somewhat cloudy light amber color. Is a very distinct color for a wheat beer. Aroma is very light straw smell. A slightly bitter wheat flavor. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Dec 17, 2007 Updated: Feb 5, 2008On tap at The Peanut in Lees Summit, MO. I was surprised to see this on tap, as I live about 10 miles from the brewery and I never knew that it even existed. Per the brewery’s marketing rep, this is an American wheat designed to provide our local bar owners a cost effective alternative in a market flooded with wheat beers backed by "insane marketing dollars". I think that they definitely hit the mark with this one. It pours a super-cloudy straw-orange with a thin white head that diminishes quickly. The nose is a solid wheat with a light citrus note in the background. Light to medium-bodied, but not "thin" with a quick, clean finish. The flavor is a straight-forward but fairly bold wheat front with a somewhat sour, citric backing. Fairly simple, if not formulaic, but it is quite refreshing, and its my favorite of the Flying Monkey brews that I’ve sampled. At their usual price-point, if they chose to sell this in bottles, I’m inclined to think that they could take a bite out of Boulevard’s market-share, even here in KC.
