| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 4, 2009 Updated: Feb 8, 2009Duck-Rabbit’s Milk Stout was recently given a nice, long rest in a barrel of Pappy Van Winkle’s 23-Year Old Family Reserve.
Appearance: Dark brown, near black body with a few tired-looking, beige bubbles resting on top.
Smell: Porter-minded notes of chocolate and roasty coffee with the strong scent of quality bourbon whiskey leading the charge.
Taste: Dark maltiness displayed as a taste of bittersweet chocolate with a minor toffee-like sweetness and a swig of morningtime coffee. The bourbon definitely dominates the flavor, but, thankfully, doesn’t really detract from it as it delivers an abundance of charred oak barrel flavor with a light bitterness trailing close behind. Lesser tastes of coconut and brown sugar. Richly bourbony finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-low carbonation.
Drinkability: Kudos to the folks at Foothills for producing a fine, tasty bourbon barrel-aged porter. hophead75 (1964), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

Aroma of light bourbon, chocolate, light toast, and oak. Taste has some mild roasted notes, with a nice amount of chocolate, light bourbon, molasses. Medium bodied, finishes with a mild to moderate hop bitterness. Nicely done. ucusty (1915), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

The nose is very nice, prominent bourbon and oak coming through, very rich, tannic vanilla character, some of the base porter comes through. The flavor is oaky and tart bourbon character, chocolatey, rich, some roast shows up. Tannic and oaky on the palate. JCB (1796), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 9, 2009 First beer sampled at Pre-Sex. I actually think the People’s Porter is among the best beers Foothills brews. My first thought was that the bourbon overwhelmed the base beer, but it actually settled down fairly quickly. With a big pour, the sharp and very young bourbon came on aggressively in the nose. But while the base is slightly occluded, it’s a rich and satisfying beer whose sweet flavors blend well with the deep roasts of the porter. tjthresh (1780), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 8, 2009 Draft at the brewpub during the Sexual Chocolate release party. The pour is dark brown with some tan head. The nose has plenty of vanilla, bourbon, oak. Same in the flavor and very good. A bit watery though. I suppose that just makes it easier to drink, though I’d prefer a bit more fullness.
