Poured cloudy brown with a thick, lasting head. Aroma of hops, citrus, few malts, and pine. Taste was heavier on the hops than expected, citrus rind, and even less malt. Definitely a great session beer. Enjoyed it tarheels86 (808), Washington DC, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Draft at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy deep brown, chocolate milkshake like with a sizeable tan, chunk head that has great retention and lacing. Aroma is very hop forward: lots of pine, fresh citrus peels. Only small hints of malted chocolate and nuttiness. Taste is heavy on the citrus, piney hops. Some noticeable caramel in the background. Looking at this, it is obviously a brown ale but the taste is all IPA. I’m sort of a sucker for these dark IPAs and find this one excellent, very drinkable, and sessionable. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 9, 2009 Very good beer. I could drink several of these in a night. Mild, earthy aroma with a strong hops presence. Dark amber in color with a one finger head that is balanced and lingers. Nice hoppy flavor that is very warming. Alcohol is more present in taste as the beer warms. Malty, chocolate notes upfront with the bitter hops coming in late. Very full-flavored palate. Nice. hophead75 (1964), Boonton, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 20, 2009 EBF Session 1. Copper in color. Aroma of caramel, light chocolate, with a moderate amount of citrus and light pine. Taste has some light roast, and bright citrus hops. Medium bodied, nice piney hop bittering finish. Well done. awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 20, 2009 On draft. Somewhat transparent, dark brown, ruby tinted body with a thick layer of pillowy beige head. Aromas of chocolate, biscuit, and caramel malt. Cakey. Suggestions of citrusy hops, but the malt sweetness dominates the nose. Medium bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel with a somewhat sticky texture. Flavors of chocolate and caramel leap out right away, tasty, but a bit too sweet. Mid-palate, a bold piney hop flavor begins to build, getting more and more intense into the beer’s finish. The beer has good clean malt and hop flavors, but the two don’t really seem to mix all that well. The boldness of the hop bitterness seems to clash a bit with the sweetness of the malt flavors, even though what’s there is clean and tasty. Sessioning this beer was quite difficult. tjthresh (1780), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 8, 2009 Draft at the brewpub. Pours garnet red with some dirty white head. Bit of a chocolate nose with some citrus. The flavor is the reveres of that. Medium body. This might have been my favorite of the group.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 6, 2009 Pours dark brown with a pretty foamy head. Sweet and slightly piney aroma. Flavors of toffee, some roastiness, and a nice hop bite to finish. I really enjoyed this one. Since this one is not on the menu at Foothills, I am sure glad I asked my waiter for suggestions. durhambeer (1229), Durham, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 28, 2008 This was great... medium/dark brown with lively white head. very fresh hops and less roasty and dark than something like DFH Indian Brown. Sweet, malty, a little roast and nice hops. Easy to drink, for sure. I feel like my rating belies how much I actually enjoyed this beer.
