Foothills Indian Brown Ale

On draft at 08 sexual chocolate release day. Pours brown with off white head. The aroma was very storng citrus. The taste had some sweetness but was dominated by the hop bitterness. Nice lingereing aftertaste.

Pleasant surprise at the Federal, Durham. Expected a typically thin brown with minimal caramel malts and so forth. I was surprised that this was a fine, hoppy brown ale. A bit of malts but mostly a refreshing hoppy brew.

The aroma was fruity, spicy and peppery with a strong citrus presence. The malt was mostly caramel and was found in the background and some slight acidic chocolate presence. The beer arrived clear dark amber/brown with a brown lasting head which laced the glass. The flavor was spicy and fruity with a low malt flavor of caramel. A strong hop flavor presence of citrus was coupled with substantial bittering. The finish was dry with lasting citrus flavors long into the aftertaste. The body was medium-full with a moderate level of carbonation and a creamy texture on the palate. Some alcohol warming was notable. A nice brown ale, a bit strong in the citrus department. Pint at Flying Saucer in Charlotte.

aged (casked?) version to honor MJ. Pours dark brown with minimal head. Nice nutty hop aroma. malts, chocolate, and hops. finish’s slighty bittersweet.

Had this on tap at Speakeasy sometime earlier this summer. Now that Im drinking one of this years Big Hoppy Monsters I am reminded of this beer. This tastes very similar to this year’s BHM. The base for this beer may have been an ipa, but their are clearly some roasted and chocolate malt characteristics lingering throughout this beer, sometimes taking front and center stage. I didnt find this one as well balanced as many of the other offerings from Foothills, but still found it drinkable and somethwhat enjoyable.

Flavor: hop flavor just keeps getting bigger, lots of earthyness goes good with the chocolate
Overall: this one needs to be oaked

on tap-pours a retaining creamy off white head and cloudy mahogany color. Aroma is citrus hops. Taste is citrus hops-bitter (cascade), secondary medium malt. Good carbonation. Almost a A2PA.

Growler shared by kp on 1/4/07: Pours a murky mahogany with a nicely-lacing off-white head. Aroma of earthy milk chocolate and fresh grapefruity hops. Body starts lightly sweet and earthy with a nice piny bitter balance. An enjoyable and interesting brew.
