Aroma was very malty and slightly sweet. Flavor had a lot of malt to it with a nice smack of hops to it, which i wasnt expecting. This is a very solid beer from a very solid brewery. shp555 (1683), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 10, 2007 Growler. The beer poured a very hazy brown color with a beige head. The aroma had a light roasted malt character and a decent amount of sweetness. The flavor continued the trend of sweet roasted malt. Mild chocolate notes were present as well. The was a hint of spine mixed into the dry finish. NachlamSie (1641), Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 22, 2006 Draught, under the moniker "Foothills Brewing Festive IBA". There seems to have been some confusion at Barley’s regarding those two beers’ titles, but this was most certainly the Indian Brown Ale. It’s an opaque brown with a light tan head. I was a bit confused by the aroma, but I think I liked it. There’s a strange, almost awkward mesh of hazelnut, caramel, toast, grapefruit, and pine. The flavor is nutty, yeah, pretty nutty like toasted almonds. Some coffee flavor shows up here and there. Meanwhile, zesty, piny hops highlight the maltier tastes. Very well executed flavor profile from a brewery who has hops and knows how to use them. I am inclined to disagree with the categorization of this as an IPA, though it does freely transcend styles. It packs all the flavor characteristics of a brown, just with much, much more emphasis on the hoppy notes a la DFH Indian Brown. Veeve (312), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Dec 18, 2006 on tap at the brewpub and at mellow mushroom up the street. I tried it twice at two differen places two days in a row to make sure I really hated it as much as I thought I did. pours a hazy ruddy-brown with a small beige head. smells earthy, spicy and of strong hops. I was disappointed by this. some interesting flavor profiles but it bites you all at once in a messy miss mosh of flavors and then disappears all at once, finishes very very dry with an unpleasant rotten bitter hop aftertaste. the bite of bitter spiciness is peppery, hoppy, yeasty, earthy and nutty. definetely hazelnut. it also tastes like it was sprinkled with dirt. if you love love love hops maybe you would be forgiving of this one. I think it was poorly executed. i won’t drink it again. 19641948 (491), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 27, 2006 Updated: Jun 11, 2007Pours a deep dark chocolate color; almost a cola look to it with ruby highlights along the edge of the bottom. Fluffy almond head exhibits some staying power. Wet loose lace slides and glides inside the glass. Aromas of some Dutch process cocoa powder float upwards to saturate the nostrils. Earthy hoppiness; you can smell the soil the rhizomes were planted in. An ample spiciness in the air as well. Flavors offer a roasty feel; heavily kilned malts result in a rather porter-esque (or a lighter stout) roastiness. Very nice. Nut character appears with some almond and hazelnut. A bitter earthiness finishes the taste. Plenty of hops abound in this India Pale, er, Brown Ale. Average mouthfeel. Feels a tad thin and reserved. The dark color and earthy attributes trick you into thinking this might have a hefty body. Drinkable and enjoyable. An earthy dose of bitter awaits you.
