On tap at Barley’s in Asheville, 11/15/08... dark brown, nice head and minimal lacing. Roasty aroma and flavor. This was a fairly sour porter to not be an imperial, etc... the finish had a nice coffee flavor, and there were bittersweet chocolate notes throughout. It probably wasn’t as smooth and balanced as I was hoping.

Pours a dark brown with a decent tan head. Great chocolate flavor with a little bit of toffee and a slight hop kick. This is a very good winter brew.

Yum. This is a newer one, I guess. Thought I’d tried most Foothills brews and then saw this on tap. Was a cool night, so a porter seemed like a good choice. I’d already had an Eclipse and a Seeing Double, so why not keep with Foothills for the night? Deep brown pour with creamy white head. Chocolate and slight coffee notes; creamy and slightly smoky. Hint of licorice? Notes of roasted malt. Very tasty.

The aroma immediately offers a nice concentration of coffee, roasted/burnt malt and a light chocolate sweetness. The body is a dark ruddy brown and holds a aloft a diminishing mocha head. . The first sip offers your standard choc/coff. This brews is maybe a touch more burnt bitter than the norm. Also a bit more hoppy than usual which melds for a more bitter finish. Pretty decent porter with a little more pop than most.

Draft @ Barleys, Asheville. Pours a deep chocolate brown with cocoa head. Nose is rich toffee with faint British leafy hops and roasted smokiness. Decent body, nice and smooth going down, starting with hazelnut-chocolate before rounding out into coffee-like bitterness in the finish. A nice session porter.

From a growler brought back from Winston. Pours a dark, dark brown with a small, creamy tan head. The aroma is bitter chocolate with a little smoky, charred smell. The taste is gorgeous. Coffee, licorice maybe a touch of toffee. Finishes smooth with just a touch of bitterness.
