Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a frothy, nicely-lacing dark tan head. Aroma of sweet toasty dark caramel malts and some dark fruity notes. Starts fairly full and dark malty sweet with an earthy bittersweet dark chocolate balance. Finishes slightly drier with nice light roasty notes. Good balance of malty sweetness throughout.

Growler courtesy of Dragonstout. This one poured a dark brown color with a thin tan head that left a little lacing. The aroma was of dark chocolate, toasted malts, and big roasty smells. The flavor is full of roastiness and toasted malts along with some dark chocolate. The medium body lends to a smooth finish that is roasty and bitter. Pretty good job with this one, but just a touch too sweet.

Sampled from growler courtesy DragonStout. Dark chestnut brown with a light tan head that disappears quickly. Nice heavy chocolate-cocoa-roast combonation, very smooth and subtle. Taste is mildly bitter and roasty with sweetness and nuttiness coming in on the finish. The roast and sweet kind of compete here, but still tasty.

pint @ Tyler’s Durham. Good aroma, sweet. Chocolate & coffee, roasted grain, caramel. Clean dark brownish black, Good head that faded quickly, small amount of lacing. Bittersweet flavor, like aroma, but bolder. Medium body, lite creamy mouthfeel, bitter finish. Very good porter, robust. MMM

Draught at Barley’s in Asheville. Pours dark mahogany with beige head. The aroma is sweet caramel and maple syrup with some chocolate and forest hints. The flavor is mild chocolate with some sweet caramel and an interesting dose of pine. There’s a touch of ash and toffee in the finish. Not bad.
