The aroma is sweet caramel and maple syrup with some chocolate and forest hints. The flavor is mild chocolate with some sweet caramel and an interesting dose of pine. There’s a touch of ash and toffee in the finish. Not bad. jobyone (234), Charlotte, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 5, 2008 Growler... O-Town Christmas Gathering ’07... Pitch black brew with a small, creamy, off-white head. Chocolate, espresso, charcoal and vanilla add up to the aroma. Full-bodied with a coarse mouthfeel and supple carbonation. Fair balance of chocolate and caramel sweetness versus tobacco, hop and burnt malt bitterness; although it tilts decidedly onto the sweet side. Finishes caramelized and bittersweet. Intense, but a touch too sweet for me. Kudos to DragonStout. Thanks for the beer! StoutCat (85), Rockville, Maryland, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 2, 2008 On tap at Tyler’s, Durham. Another solid as hell beer from Foothills. A rich, robust porter with plenty of chocolate malts and a fine bready mouthfeel. Subtle roasted barley notes are might warming on a cold night and the thick body yields a long lasting finish. High quality stuff. Beerlando (2353), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 1, 2008 Growler, courtesy DragonStout. The body is a very dark mahogany shade. A small, tan colored head leaves behind minimal, spotty lacing. The aroma is of baker’s chocolate, coffee beans, roasted malts, and dry, woodsy oak. The flavor follows down the same dry, roasty path. Each detectable component seems to be of the dry roasted variety, including coffee beans, cocoa beans, and dry, earthy hops. Medium bodied, smooth and well balanced. Very easy to drink. Solid, very straightforward brew, but lacking ingenuity in my opinion. dchmela (1458), Orlando, Florida, USA
