Aroma is cocoa, roasted malt (just like I expected from a porter). Taste is the same but tamer (I expected the flavor to be a little more aggressive). Pretty good, overall. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 28, 2007 Growler. Courtesy Dragonstout. Pours a dark brown, with a medium light brown head. Smells of big roast, some creamy chocolate, toasted malts, and maybe even a touch of some smoke as well. The flavor is extremely roasty, slight bitterness from it lingers. The chocolate is more like dark chocolate in a candy bar, but the toasted malt and roast reign supremem here. the finish is toasty and bitter. Pretty decent job here. elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 10, 2007 Draft, pours a dark brown with a tan head. Does not have overwhelming hints of burnt malts like most porters. This brew is very subtle and easy to drink. Hints of chocolate, nuts, spice, coffee. Sticks to the tongue very well. Finishes thick and sweet. Jamie has done a hell of a job. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 8, 2007 Draft at FB. Very dark brown pour, somewhat opaque. The head is tan, tall and reluctant to relent, creating thin webbed lacing. the aroma is of bitter chocolate, coffee beans, milk sugar, roasted malt, caramels and nuts. Alcohol is well concealed. The flavor is lightly sweet, moderately bitter and nicely complex. Chocolate is multi-faceted and takes center stage, coffee and caramel notes lingering just behind. Roast is very light but imparts ample cutting bitterness on the back side. Finishes soft and understated, chocolate and nuttiness lingering. Mouthfeel is very rich and pretty satisfying, a touch sticky but well carbonated. Very good. iowaherkeye (1858), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 11, 2007 500mL hand bottle from BleacherBum, thanks Ryan! Pours a clear deep ruby with brown highlights and a half finger bubbly quickly fading down to a thin beige film. Aroma of roasted malts and dark chocolate, mild toasted grain and light sweetness. Flavor was much more roasty than expected with a burnt malt bitter finish. There is still some chocolate and sweet malt in there as well. Minimal carbonation with a light to medium body, pretty smooth. Well made porter. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Aroma, lots of coffee, roasted malts, some dark chocolate. Flavor, dark chocolate, coffee, malty, sweet, some slight roasty bitterness. Medium bodied, this is pretty good. Leaves me looking forward to the stout I get to try soon. BleacherBum (176), Blowing Rock, North Carolina, USA

Malts, chocolate and coffee dominate the aroma with a touch of some other sweetness I can’t quite pin down. Flavor is robust with much chocolate, malt and some hop. Dry, bitter finish. A medium-bodied porter. Very nice. Would drink on a more consistent basis if I could. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 9, 2007 From growler sampled at the Pop the cap beer dinner in Charlotte. A new Foothills beer is always a treat for me, because they are really one of the premier brewers in the state. Brownish black color with a small tan head on it. Smell is chocolate, coffee, malts, sugar, and some other sweet overtones. Taste is rich and full of chocolate, coffee, malts. Very smooth and rich, and intriguing. Not as good as their Baltic porter, but it certainly holds its own amongst other porters that NC has to offer. Very nice stuff.
