Big thanks to TurdFerguson for a growler of this. The pour was turbid rust color with 2-finger, creamy white head. Aroma of big piney hops, bready caramel malt, some mango, black pepper, tangerine. The taste was very hoppy, with a hefty caramel malt base, some black pepper notes, mango, tangerine, honeydew. This one is on the chewy side, with a very hefty palate, a lot of hops, caramel malt, and fruit. It gets even fruitier, hoppier, and denser as it warms, almost acquiring a low level barleywiney profile. This is an outstanding beer.

A huge IPA with a solid malty backbone, redolent with piny resin-ridden hops. Highly drinkable for a 9.5 percenter with a long mouth coating earthy hop finish. Clear light brown with a rocky off-white head, this brew leaves ample lacing and is a treat for the eyes and tongue.

Growler from BleacherBum. Dark amber/orange color. Small head with excellenct hoppy aroma. Sweet and thick with smooth earthy hop flavor. This is a very thich and chewy IIPA. Some alcohol, but that never hurt anybody. THIS IS ONE BIG BEER.

Sampled from a 5 gallon keg (courtesy of boboski) at kp’s on 7/2/06: Pours a clear orange copper with a nicely-lacing white head. Big, fresh piny hoppy aroma has a nice, clean balanced caramel maltiness. Starts with a good sweet sticky caramel malty palate and lots of fresh piny hoppy flavor. Nicely-balanced and fresh with plenty of green hops and mild citrus with a lightly warming finish. A nice double IPA.

Sample at Atlanta Cask Ale. Man I love this style and man this is a great one. Great hop aroma balanced with malt to smooth it out. Nice color and big full body.

Draft at FB. Hazy amber pour with a well retained off whit head, substantial lacing. Grapefruity hops shine in the aroma along with pine needles, fresh caramel malt, mulberry, dried pungent flowers and fresh berry Juicy Juice. Delectable nose that is at once gripping and accessible. Sweet taste is never cloying, but rich, filled with more grapefruit that never becomes overwhemingly sour as the real thing sometimes can. Also noted are more pine and hefty and complimentary malts. This just tastes so fresh, so balanced. Orange pulp and sweet berries are introduced once again near the finale. Finish is medium dry with moderate astringency. Palate is medium in body and full throttle on mouth warming complexity. A very well done double IPA from a very talented brewer. I have been fortunate to sample this on draft and from a growler, both were magnificent. Fresh vibrant fruit taste is the key component to this one’s excellent quaffability, it couldn’t really taste much more invigorating or be too much more agreeable.

I had this on tap at the Atlanta Cask Ale Festival, one of the only breweries from out of state fielding a beer. Good balance of malt and hops, which again have a good orange character and come with a slight tingling bitterness.
