Wonderful brew. Flavor is very bitter and has a great balance to it. Aroma is hoppy and this brew has a nice off white head to it. Great job guys!

Draft at FB. Hazy amber pour with a well retained off whit head, substantial lacing. Grapefruity hops shine in the aroma along with pine needles, fresh caramel malt, mulberry, dried pungent flowers and fresh berry Juicy Juice. Delectable nose that is at once gripping and accessible. Sweet taste is never cloying, but rich, filled with more grapefruit that never becomes overwhemingly sour as the real thing sometimes can. Also noted are more pine and hefty and complimentary malts. This just tastes so fresh, so balanced. Orange pulp and sweet berries are introduced once again near the finale. Finish is medium dry with moderate astringency. Palate is medium in body and full throttle on mouth warming complexity. A very well done double IPA from a very talented brewer. I have been fortunate to sample this on draft and from a growler, both were magnificent. Fresh vibrant fruit taste is the key component to this one’s excellent quaffability, it couldn’t really taste much more invigorating or be too much more agreeable.

on tap at the Flying Saucer in Raleigh and again the next night at Tyler’s in Durham. was told this had not been on tap in a while, so assume my pints were from pretty fresh kegs. poured a mostly clear, orangey-dark amber with a one finger white head leaving a great looking silky lace on the sides of the glass. aroma was slightly floral, but had plenty of citrus and pine notes and a touch of earthy grain. flavor was a well balanced mix of citrus sweetness up front, followed by the caramel sweetness and finishing with lingering pine resin bitterness. this was not the hop bomb of a IIPA which have become so common. if not for the 9.5% abv, which was well hidden btw, this would be very sessionable. a very enjoyable beer!
10/19/09 had this again last Thursday at the saucer in Raleigh. many times a beer is not as good as one remembers... this was the exception, this was BETTER than I remember! dangerously drinkable.

On tap @ FH 6/30/06: Very hazy medium copper w/ a very thin off white ring around the glass for a head. laces well though, and has alcohol legs showing nicely on the glass. Grapefruity citrusy hops & a sugary sweetness dominate the aroma at first. A lightly solventy alcohol creeps in as it warms, and becomes heavily fruity from both hops and alcohol esters. Lightly toasty malt and caramel makes an appearance as it warms in the aroma. Very much balanced to the sweet side for flavor, almost 120 minute IPA like, very sticky in the mouth, but not as alcoholic flavored. Very fruity and sweet throughout. Light citrusy hop and caramel in the sweet finish, with a citrusy hop aftertaste that has a lingering sweetness. Did I mention this beer was on the sweet side???? Also has a bit of sugary flavors throughout with some mild bready maltiness. Full bodied, lower carbonation, smooth for the most part, but a very warming alcohol. A bit too sticky sweet even for me! I’m not sure I could handle more than one glass between a few bitter ones due to the sweetness in this one!

Poured at 2009 GABF, Saturday session. Pours an attractive gold-orange, with a small cream colored head. Aroma is all citrus and sweeter fruits (mainly orange, pinneaple). Body is medium-light with medium attenuation, very creamy-smooth. Flavors come out with a hop tang to them, rounding appropriately with a faint malt sweetness. Freshness of the hops is so important to this beer.

Sampled at the 10th annual Brewgrass festival. Pours hazy amber with carbonation and a thin white lasting head. Grassy citrus hops on top of creamy sweet malt. Yum. Wonderful flavor including sweet caramel, citrus hops (orange, peach), pine hops, red candy licorice, and cherry hints. Wow. Great creamy body. Perfect light carbonation for the style. Semi-dry finish. Just wonderful. I did not drink anything other than this for the rest of the day.

Growler from BleacherBum. Dark amber/orange color. Small head with excellenct hoppy aroma. Sweet and thick with smooth earthy hop flavor. This is a very thich and chewy IIPA. Some alcohol, but that never hurt anybody. THIS IS ONE BIG BEER.

I had this on tap at the mellow mushroom in w-s. Despite it being somewhat flat and i being somewhat hungover, i really liked it. It was also the first beer I had after college commencement. Dark copper color. Lots of grapefruit and citrus hops in the aroma. Flavor is very hoppy and some caramel sweetness. I didn’t really notice the alcohol. Texture was smooth and creamy. Considering what a shit factory Foothills is, this is one pretty fantastic beer.
