Pour is cloudy as hell, almost looks like a Hefe...body is amber/rusty in color, very nice looking...incredible lacing...head is about 2 fingers thick, tightly packed full of bubbles...average retention...damn, this lacing is nice...nose of caramel, floral hops, some soapiness...aroma is muted, which is disappointing...maybe I was just expecting a more in your face citrus hop bomb, this one is more floral and subtle...doesn’t smell like many Double IPA’s out there right now...flavor is very similar, a lot of caramel/toffee malts...better sense of the hops here, big floral/perfume kick...no pine or bitterness expected from other types of hops...full bodied, very round and filling...oily, slick mouthfeel...finish is very long, floral hops, then a seemingly endless supply of caramel/toffee malts. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 5, 2007 Ordered on tap at Flying Saucer- Charlotte. A full maltiness offsets the 100+ IBUs nicely. Not a lot of pine or citrus, but rather a strawberry/kiwi flavor with a thick mouthfeel. This beers density works on a cool winter night, its fruitiness on a warm summer evening. Wither way - a lot of bang for the buck in this $2.50 pint special. wcampbell (582), Central, South Carolina, USA

The initial flavor is not overpowering with hops or malt. Citrus flavored, but not bitter in the taste. The bitterness comes all in the finish, which lingers. No taste of alcohol. Unbelievably drinkable. Mild toasty caramel malt flavors as well, to add some balance. Miver (575), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 28, 2008 From growler thanks to Axilla. Poured hazy copper amber in color with a foamy tan head that left lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus hops, oranges, and a sweet malty backbone. Tastes of orange peel, pine, citrus hops with a linguring sweet mouthfeel. Not a bad IIPA. StFun (534), Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 18, 2009 Very nice IIPA. Doesn’t overpower, and is very drinkable. Pours a deep, dark orange with a white head. Aroma is nice, full of citrus and bitter hops, but also some really nice notes of dark fruit and toffee. Flavor is nice and balanced, citrus, lemons, dark fruits, wood, toffee, and just a touch of grain. Packs a big punch, but one of the more drinkable DIPAs out there. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 26, 2008 On tap at Armadillo Grill in Wake Forest. Hazy orange pour with a 1-finger white head. Floral and citrusy hop aroma, just a hint of grainy malt as well. Intense hop flavor: citrus, some peach (maybe? I’ve never detected a peach flavor in an ipa before but that’s what I was getting), lots of malt to sort of balance this out, but it’s still a bruiser. Some booze detected as it warmed. Sticky, resinous hops coat your palate as you swallow, leaving citrusy hop goodness lingering long after you’ve swallowed. Top notch IIPA!
