Commercial Description:
Foothills' first high gravity beer may have you Seeing Double. The hops are balanced with just enough body to craft a highly drinkable brew. Expect a full body and a hint of citrus from the seven varieties of hops added to the brew. IBU: 130.

#300. Shared with Dragonstout, like most of the milestones. Tap at Foothills. Pours a neon reddish color with a frothy white head. Heavy hints of candied sugars, simcoe hops, and citrus fruits. Finished with a good body and stuck to the palate well. I need a growler of this!

Draft @ Foothills: Really glad I got a chance to try this when I was here. Nice orange pour with some amber highlights and a creamy sticky white head. NIce aroma of citrus and pine, as you’d expect. Nicely carbonated with a relatively aggressive bitterness. Quick finish as compared to other high gravity brews, however that was the only real significant ding in this beer.

Tap. Average off-white head. Dark amber hue to body. Aroma is citrus, resin, caramel, and light pine. Flavor is spicy. Bitterness strong and present throughout. Overall Good IPA, could use a little mellowing though.

From notes 10/14/05: Pours a hazy, unfiltered golden orange color. Glowing. Creamy beige head lasts for just a short while and I’m left with a just a thin ring of single-file bubbles around the edge. Lacing is spotty with wet loose conglomerations of foam oozing down the glass. Aromas smack you hard. Juicy citrus and pine. Fantastic scents that blow me away. I find myself sitting there and inhaling deeply for minutes on end before even drinking it. Wow. I love this aroma. Flavors give a good wallop of bitterness to the palate. A bready malt base gives a firm foundation. Layer upon layer of hop cones are built upon that. Citrus, pine, and oils all coat the tongue and peel away a coat of enamel from the teeth. Voracious bitterness lingers. Hop burps are divine. Solid mouthfeel and an intense drinkability for the hophead. 9.5% and 100+ IBU? Sign me up. Great beer.

Draft @ Flying Saucer, Raleigh. Hadn’t heard of this one before trying it, but was pleasantly surprised. Great hoppy flavor, not overpowering for the style. Didn’t realize the high alcohol content while drinking. A dangerously smooth double.

On tap at the Flying Saucer in Charlotte. A friend of mine who I ran into tonight told me, "You MUST try this new beer out of Winston-Salem, it’s great." So I ordered it, and I’ve gotta say, it truly was an excellent beer. I’m a big fan of I2PA’s and this didn’t disappoint - lots of bitterness, but it’s also smooth and very easy to drink. Lots of citrus flavor to balance it out. I will definitely have this one again.

Pours a deep, dark cherry wood color. Aroma of citrus notes with a hint of alcohol. Initial sweetness, some caramel hidden in there. Sticky beer that clings to the roof of your mouth. A smooth maltiness takes over and slowly gives way to a bitterness at the back of your throat. This a a very special beer! Big thanks to alexanderj and kleyland for deciding to make the short drive to Winston-Salem from the WBF.
