The pour was turbid rust color with 2-finger, creamy white head. Aroma of big piney hops, bready caramel malt, some mango, black pepper, tangerine. The taste was very hoppy, with a hefty caramel malt base, some black pepper notes, mango, tangerine, honeydew. This one is on the chewy side, with a very hefty palate, a lot of hops, caramel malt, and fruit. It gets even fruitier, hoppier, and denser as it warms, almost acquiring a low level barleywiney profile. This is an outstanding beer. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA

Clear amber color with a medium off-white head. Big grapefruit aroma and flavor. Sweet malt. Hop bitterness that keeps growing. the finish is lightly sweet. Very warming and tastey. I had three glasses for the road before I left. I also had a DD so not a problem. Grovlam (3810), Copenhagen, Denmark

# 31 Bottle. [Papsoe’s great blind tasting, thanks Henrik!]
Average bubbly off-white head that mostly diminished. Fair display of lacework. Clear flat looking body with an amber color. Aroma of pine, grapefruit, citrus, underlying malty sweetness. Over the palate came heavy hoppy feel with some fruity and apricot. Full bodied with an average carbonation and very dry, mild alcoholic texture. Moderated bitter and light sweet flavor. Dry and bitter hoppy finish.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 29, 2007 Draft pint at the Flying Saucer, Raleigh. Dark but shiny red with a broken cloud cover. The aroma is inviting and intimidating at the same time ... heavy malt. The flavor is also heavy-handed ... malt, sugar, warm. The body doesn’t quite match up, but it is still a nice , almost brutally bitter brew. (#2830, 4/27/2007) Rciesla (3770), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

Laden with caramel. Taste is chewy, sweet malts, caramel, hops, citrus notes and a touch of pine. Body is thick and chewy but creamy. Finishes with more citrus and caramel. Nice!
Draft at WBF Raleigh on 5/2/09. Just an update as I didn’t realize I had rated this already! My friend and I both got samples of this and we both picked up some "oddities" at the fest. We both got mint/herbal notes, tropical fruit and even a hint of coconut on top of our hops, caramel, and pine. We thought it odd but thought it tasty as well and different which is definitely what I like.
