Commercial Description:
Foothills' first high gravity beer may have you Seeing Double. The hops are balanced with just enough body to craft a highly drinkable brew. Expect a full body and a hint of citrus from the seven varieties of hops added to the brew. IBU: 130.

Draft at the brewery. Dark copper and lightly cloudy with some lasting bubbles. Aroma is wood, caramel, light grapefruit and alcohol. Flavors of caramel, resin, light grapefruit, plums and oak. Medium body is smooth and finishes dryish, but borders on stickiness. The lesser amount of hops in this one almost makes it seems like a barleywine.

Growler from Unclejedi at the BA tasting. Pours amber orange with an off white head. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Nice citrus and piney hop aroma. Flavor of caramel and toffee with some faint smoke esters, countered by a grapefruity bitterness.

On tap at the Flying Saucer, Raleigh. NIce deep orange pour, with a slightly cloudy body and a fairly notable head. Very dank hop aroma is promising, with So-Cal juiciness emerging in the nose and then fairly exploding in the taste. It’s not excessively bitter, though that’s in there, but is more of a heavily fruity IIPA with some substantial malts in there to contribute to the sweetness and also to balance it out. It actually compares favorably with Avery’s Maharaja. Dynamite fresh IIPA from a fantastic NC brewery.

This was my whole reason for going to Foothills brewing yesterday, and it was well worth it. This is a serious IPA. Brown color, white head. Massive amount of hops and malts in this one. Very well balanced, very drinkable. A really good Imperial IPA to come out of NC, too bad it is not in bottles. The brewery is new, so hopefully bottling this will come soon. Great IIPA.

8/4/8/4/17 - Sample from growler thanks to Bleacherbum. Amber color with a light-med white head. Aroma has some nice floral-grapefruit mix to it with a pleasant bit of sweet malts. Flavor has a nice hop mix with grapefruit/citrus, floral, earthy, and other freshly picked hop flavors melding together well. Nice use of malt here as well, plus a pleasant finish. The kind of beer you could drink all damn day.

Growler from Jimbowood. I’ve had a few weeks and just now getting around to it. Held up pretty well, big hiss upon opening, still highly carbonated. Dark copper, huge off white head, great lacing. Aroma is full of ornage zest, pine and pineapple, faint malt backbone. Malt comes through in flavor, very big sweet resinous character, tons of caramel/toffee. Juicy citrus through the middle and big spicy pine bitterness in the finish. Oily smooth mouthfeel. For 9.5% I get absolutely no alcohol, but am starting to feel it. Will agree with Naven, nothing mind-blowing about this, almost sessionable.
