Lightly hazy orange ale with a small, creamy, white head. The floral, fruity nose delivers big grapefruit, wet leather and big malts. Good, malty-sweet flavor up front followed by a heavy dose of hops. Tangy, bitter and a little tart. Full-bodied and ultra-creamy with soft carbonation. Lengthy, pretty damn bitter finish. The alcohol and hops eventually dry everything out. bu11zeye (5564), Frisco, Texas, USA

Despite it being somewhat flat and i being somewhat hungover, i really liked it. It was also the first beer I had after college commencement. Dark copper color. Lots of grapefruit and citrus hops in the aroma. Flavor is very hoppy and some caramel sweetness. I didn’t really notice the alcohol. Texture was smooth and creamy. Considering what a shit factory Foothills is, this is one pretty fantastic beer. kmweaver (2471), Sebastopol, California, USA

Thanks, Sam! Pours a hazy, orange-amber color; light off-white head with patchy lacing. Solid amounts of orange and citrus hops in the aroma; resiny, fresh, and crisp overall; generous nose. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy, resiny hoppiness upfront (earthiness, oranges, and citrus); some sweet candy sugar and biscuity malts; very generous, resiny, dripping hop character; excellent double IPA. Lengthy finish: tongue-numbing bitterness, oranges, citrus, and mineral zestiness; lots and lots of well-represented hops. Miver (568), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured hazy copper amber in color with a foamy tan head that left lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus hops, oranges, and a sweet malty backbone. Tastes of orange peel, pine, citrus hops with a linguring sweet mouthfeel. Not a bad IIPA. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA

Pours hazy yet clearing orange-ish copper with tan head and lasting cobweb lacing. The aroma is light with sweet grapefruit hops, sweet orange juice and a hint of malt sweetness. The taste is a bit timid for an IIPA with some grapefruit and orange hop flavor (most likely due to a load of late addition hops) and mild citrus hop bitterness. Pretty nice. With further investigation it seems the late addition hopping was quite prolific and poneying up the dominant flavor component. I also get a background of sweet malts. It ends with bitter hops growing to near tepid levels compared to the sweeter citrus hop flavor. Great mouth feel on this beer. Naven (876), Poway, California, USA

Good carbonation, and the beer tasted really fresh. I think this is the first Growler I have ever received in a trade. Although there is nothing extraordinary about this beer, it’s a nice example of the style. Not overdone, almost sessionable. Alcohol is really well hidden. JCB (1777), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 10, 2008 On tap at the Flying Saucer, Raleigh. NIce deep orange pour, with a slightly cloudy body and a fairly notable head. Very dank hop aroma is promising, with So-Cal juiciness emerging in the nose and then fairly exploding in the taste. It’s not excessively bitter, though that’s in there, but is more of a heavily fruity IIPA with some substantial malts in there to contribute to the sweetness and also to balance it out. It actually compares favorably with Avery’s Maharaja. Dynamite fresh IIPA from a fantastic NC brewery.
