Bottle (#446/500) pours a dark, dark brown with a nice creamy brown head. Roasty nose and coffee with some chocolate. Very rich and smooth. Tastes roasty and smokey, a bit of tobacco. Dry roast and coffee. Some bitters...wtf? Where is the flippin chocolate? Mouthful is creamy, damn near exceptional. Lingering bitters and coffee. However, I wanted (and expected) a big chocolate presence. It’s still good, but damn it if it didn’t live up to either it’s name or the hype.

Bottle: Thanks Jake65! Pitch black, tan head, brown lacing. Nose of light cocoa and a chewy astringent super roasty black patent note. Tar and metal. The flavor is very chewy and roasty with ample chocolate and coffee. The chocolate is dark and bitter, toffee and espresso in the tail. Good, not top 50. Slightly vegetal. Tasty but not my favorite with all that astringent roast.

I’ve been wanting to try this one for quite a while so big thanks to kp for opening a bottle at the Brick Store. This one pours pitch black, with no light coming through at all. The tan head is small and bubbly and leaves good lacing. This is one of the best aromas I’ve had in a beer. It’s sweet, like malted milk balls - dark malts with sweet chocolate on top. There is dark fruit and hints of coffee as well. The taste is fantastic as well with a huge roasted malt backbone that is extremely well balance by generous milk chocolate and dark fruit sweetness. The finish actually has a slight espresso bitterness, but only as a complementary piece of this complex brew. The mouthfeel is so smooth, but with ample carbonation that helps coat the mouth completely in the semi-sweet goodness. I am thoroughly impressed with this beer and would rate it among my favorite imperial stouts. I may be slightly biased to the sweeter side of things, but either way this is a world class beer. Thanks again to kp for sharing this one.

decaturstevo’s 2008 Zapit Tasing Tasting. Sample from a bottle thanks to decaturstevo. Bottle 152/500. Thick black liquid with ruby hints and a thick lasting tan head. Roasty nose, coffee and light chocolate. Body is heavy but not syrupy. Dark chocolate notes but mostly roasted malts and a bittering finish.

Bottle 152 of 500. Rating #501 in a blind tasting with TF Darklord. Black pour with dark brown head. Sweet dark baking chocolate aroma. Flavor of milk and bitter chocolate. Chewy and velvety body. Great beer.

Poured pitch black with a large brown head. Dcent carbonation. Aroma is of roasted malt, rich chocolate, and licorice. Taste was extremely chocolatey with a nice roasted malt and caramel backbone. There are also notes of dark fruit and coffee. Mouthfeel was very thick and creamy. Sticks to the mouth, leaving you feeling as if you have just had a thick milk shake. Damn, this one was good.

Bottle. Poured a dark black with a one finger brown head. Aroma of roasted malt and bitter chocolate. Flavor was roasted malt, chocolate, and some dark fruit, with a hoppy finish. Full body with soft carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel.
