Smelled predominantly of molasses and chocolate. Medium to full bodied and slightly sweet with mild bitterness. Nice mixture of dark chocolate, roasty malt, and dark fruits. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 11, 2008 Sampled at WBF in Durham NC, poured from tap like a deep dark chocolate milk, forming a thick and dense foamy head. Aroma of bitter chocolate, dark roasted malts. Flavour was like that of a smoothie, clean, yet quality chocolate, malts with a bit of long roasted coffee. Hop presence give a bitterness in the end. Impressive beer. dkachur (2425), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA

Strong roasted malt aroma with coffee and bitter and leafy hop notes. Taste is roasted malts, coffee, hops, powdered cocoa, figs, raisin, nuts and citrus. Very hoppy and full bodied. Oh my jesus christ monkey balls, this was my favorite beer that I sampled at Brewgrass. Pours a black beer with a big tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee roast and molasses. Very creamy and bitter beer with an alcohol bite. I really enjoyed sipping this one, one of my favorite IMPY Stouts. durhambeer (1229), Durham, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 23, 2008 Bottle, aged about 7 months. Dark pour with generous deep tan head. Surprisingly not as sweet as I remembered from the various samples I’ve had at festivals. Smells of roasted malts and bitter chocolate with some coffee notes. Big roasty malts (molasses, soy sauce, burnt sugar) and hop presence up front, but the bitter chocolate comes through nicely at the end, making the finish quite smooth. A touch thinner on the palate than I expected. I generally do not like chocolate stouts, and I thought this might be overrated due to its rarity. I still think it is, but not by much. A very good beer. sebletitje (1997), Tampa, Florida, USA

Pours a deep black with brownish head.
Aroma of chocolate.
Taste, lots of chocolate, thick mouthfeel, roasted malts, light chocolate bitterness.
Up there with the best of chocoloate beers. glkaiser (1172), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 14, 2008 Thanks to bitbucket tasting. Lots of black licrocie, chocolate and some coffee. Stays fairly smooth but the flavor keeps coming through. Good, but could be a bit fuller. SuzyGreenberg (1408), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 12, 2008 22 oz bottle @ liquid sunshine tasting - thanks to riversideak for bringing this rarity; bottle #205/300; jet black w/ chocolate covered head; huge aromas of chocolate and roasted, nutty malts; flavors don’t quite live up to the nose as i was expecting far more chocolate; kind of letdown; thin body, roasty, dry finish; i didn’t want the chocolate bomb (as in southern tier’s), but was expecting more flavors; one of the best labels out there though...haha
