Pours with a black body topped by thick, brown head with lots of lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a roasty and smokey note with underlying bittersweet chocolate. Full bodied and smooth. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 5, 2008 Dark Brown to black colored beer. Full lacey brown head. Nose was of chocolate and a bit of roast and some coffee as well though maybe a tad of vegital qualities too unfortunately. Flavors were chocolatey and oily and the mouthfeel was full and creamy. Flavors certainly better than the aroma in this one...nice silky chocolate flavor experience. bitbucket (2035), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 3, 2008 22 capped and foiled. Thanks, RiversideAK! Pours opaque black with a thick and lacy tan head. Smoke, chocolate and coffee in the aroma and taste. Smoky espresso finish. Not bad at all, but a bit of a letdown, given the hype around this one. after4ever (2806), Brier, Washington, USA

Dense moussy tan head. Huge roasty, chocolatey, slightly smoky nose. Thick and creamy body. Ashy, chocolatey, roasty. Long roasty finish. Good stuff but not quite the masterpiece its reputation has come to suggest. skortila (2913), Bunnik, Netherlands
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 29, 2008 Bottle @ Dutch Ratebeer Session. Aroma has lots of dark chocolate. A very promiscuous scent! Black coloured with a creamy, brown head (should be ;0 ) Taste is sweet, slightly bitter. It has chocolate and some vanilla. Good balance and straightforward. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 22, 2008 Bottle @ DTS. Black and opague. Aroma and flavor have coffee and loads of dark chocolate. Just a hint of salt and licorice. The alcohol is well hidden. Syrupy, creamy mouthfeel, earthy hoppy finish. Very well balanced. This IS is really good! hapjydeuce (773), Del Mar, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 20, 2008 Bottle acquired through trade a while back with sirpsycho. Sampled this one towards the end of the 7/18 D-Metal with jarspag in OC. Overall a serious Imperial Stout loaded with sweet chocolate and espresso. Oily black texture in the pour with developing red-brown head. Big nose of molasses, charred wood and rich espresso and maybe a hint of oats. Super-rich and satisfying flavor that starts sweet up front and slams the palate with more molasses and black cocoa. Big, chewy body. Ends bitter and roasty. Really, really good.
