Sampled this one towards the end of the 7/18 D-Metal with jarspag in OC. Overall a serious Imperial Stout loaded with sweet chocolate and espresso. Oily black texture in the pour with developing red-brown head. Big nose of molasses, charred wood and rich espresso and maybe a hint of oats. Super-rich and satisfying flavor that starts sweet up front and slams the palate with more molasses and black cocoa. Big, chewy body. Ends bitter and roasty. Really, really good. jerohen (1615), Bussum, Netherlands

Smells roasty and sweet with some alcohol as well. Tastes roasty and toasty with a good bit of chocolate, but not overwhelming chocolate like I had been told to expect. Lots of sweet malt flavors as well. Medium/full body, with good carbonation. jbrus (4895), Delft, Netherlands

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 18, 2008 Draft. The aroma is fairly concentrated with chocolate, dark fruit, molasses and roasted malts. The body is a full on black and holds a lasting, thumb thick tan head. Very thick mouthfeel on the first sip, but the flavor, while great and consisting of dark chocolate, molasses, bitter coffee beans and roast malts, vanilla, cream, dark fruits; lacks the intensity of concentration I’d hoped for. Still, this is a very tasty beer. cbkschubert (2017), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 12, 2008 22 oz. bottle (432/500) courtesy of decaturstevo - Pours a clear brown color with a small tan head. Faint spotty lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, faint chocolate, and a touch of dark esters. Flavor is the same. Has a slight acidic aftertaste. As the beer warms, it seems to smooth out and is a little more palateable. Medium to full body. A nice IS, but I don’t think it lives up to the hype. Opaque black pour with some ruby notes on the halo and a wispy tan head. Big dark malt, bakers chocolate, tobacco and dark fruit notes found in the nose...medium-full bodied mouth feel. Flavor has notes of mild dark chocolates and a big espresso kick to help smooth things out a bit and round this brew out. A solid brew but not outstanding. Bockyhorsey (2554), Mesa, Arizona, USA
