A very deep dark pour with tan head and lace. Smooth very chocolate flavor that allows hints of coffee and dates to ease through. Very solid mouthfeel and excellent carbonation. Very solid IS. Dark brown, barely clear at the edges, with a sustaining tan ring and haze. Coating wet lace. Nose is cocoa, coffee and malted milk balls; touches of tar. Rich and luxurious mouthfeel reminiscent of Jacques Torres cocoa with light tickling carb. Taste is dark chocolate, sugar cane juice and pink grapefruit. Dark roast finish. Tasty. Pours black with a huge brown head. Nose is very rich - thick semisweet chocolate and roasty coffee, some plummy notes. Very smooth, creamy body, the full side of medium, nice drippy brown lace. Coffee comes to the fore in the flavor, bittersweet chocolate and a hint of anise. Mildly dry finish, charcoal, sweet malt and toffee over coffee. Excellent stuff - far easier drinking than imagined! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 29, 2008 Pours a very dark brown almost black in color. Decent sized head. Smell is dominant chocolate and some tar. Taste is all cocoa and dark chocolate. There are some dark fruits trying to make a presence, but the chocolate just won’t let it happen. Decent beer that I’m glad I got to try. I’m happy I got to try it instead of trying to trade for one on the market.
