Appearance: Pours a near-black body with a thin, tan-colored head. Smell: Roasted malt aroma with full notes of melted semi-sweet chocolate, dark caramel, and nuts. Taste: Rich, roasty semi-sweet chocolate taste with hints of anise and molasses. Faint taste of peanut butter. Moderate acidity. Some grassy hops and light notes of coffee appear near the bittersweet finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. A mouthfeel as lusciously smooth as the name implies. Drinkability: Highly recommended, it’s a very tasty RIS from the folks over at Foothills. Kudos for hiding that 10% abv, too!

GABF ’07. Pours black with a large, creamy, light brown, lasting head, excellent lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (dark bread, molasses, warm chocolate, toast), light hops (grass), average yeast (leather) with notes of smoke and light tar. Full bodied, alcoholic texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness.

2007 GABF Jet black pour big brown thick well laced head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, and roasty malts. Well coated palate, a bit small for this beer. Big flavor, some choclates, some burnt coffee, roasty, a touch of lactose. good but not as great as advertised.

GABF 2007. Pours to a viscous black body with a dense medium brown head. Nice lacing even in a plastic glass. The aroma is sweet roasted barley and oats with a nice chocolate and cocoa powder backbone. The flavor is really roasty. Barley, sweet and dark chocolates, crisp oats/barley flavors, roast without a ton of black patent. The palate is rich, creamy, only slightly astringent. Oily and very viscous. Very balanced.

GABF 2007. I was really excited about trying this one. There was a mild vegetable flavor present that really detracted from this one. Chocolate flavors dominate.
