Sampled at the 2007 BrewGrass Festival. First of the day. Pours oily black/brown with no head. The aroma is nothing if not bit piles of chocolate and espresso bean. The flavor is just as the aroma leads you to believe. Chocolate, espresso, some candy caramel and alcohol deep down. Yum. Slick/oily full mouth feel. Yes, another excellent Impy.

well I finally got to try this beer, batch from 2006 so it got some mellowness to it, oh and it was good. lucky me. pours a black with mild tan head. my initial response was that it reminded me of Darklord, anyway, roasted mocha aroma, great front to finish. mocha hides to the end, very good and balanced.

Sampled at the brewgrass fest. Poured a dark brown with a tan head. Had hints roasted coffee, chocolate, some mild spices. Carbonation and body is balanced perfectly. Alcohol is masked very well.

Very nice! Pours out a deep black color with a small dark brown head. Aroma is very malty and full of chocolate. This brew is big on flavor. A big choco smack right in the beginning and the flavor fades to a malty coffee flavor on the finish. Damn fine brew and something i have been on a mission to try for quite some time!

I thought I was going to get shut out of trying this becasue I got to Brewgrass late and they’d already run out, but lo and behold, they decided to tap another keg later in the day. So, is this just another big stout with a lot of hype and a catchy name? Well, yeah, it’s got that, but it lives up to the hype, smooooove like Billy Dee as Lando Calrissian, with a ton of chocolate and coffee in the nose, and definate fruity notes in the flavor. Unexpected notes of dark rum pop up too, and it’s remarkably full bodied throughout. Really, really good. Sampled at 2007 Asheville Brewgrass.

Five hundy. Sampled multiple times at Brewgrass 2007. Black in color with very little head. Swirling elicits a very dark tan head, but it’s short-lived. Heavy roasted aroma with mild espresso and mad chocolate. Surprisingly, little alcohol on the nose. Perfect palate, in that it isn’t overly thick and it goes down very smooth indeed. The taste has a smooth roast/coffee start and moves on to a spicy-bitter roast coffee and light alcohol middle. The finish leaves you with a warm, clean roasty glow. Like Cleopatra Jones to Shelly Winters in the classic Blaxploitation flick, Ms. Chocolate’ll get you in the end, and she’s one bad mother-(shut yo mouth!).

#900!!!! Poured at the Brewgrass Festival in Asheville. Pours a very dark brown, bordering on black, with a light little light brown head. Rich looking. Smells of monster chocolate and dark malts. Light on the roast as the chocolate flavors overpower anything in its site. I’m drooling at this point. The taste is really smooth chocolate malts pretty much the whole way. The 10% is masked with amazing efficiency, with almost no bitterness in the aftertaste or the finish. Absolutely awesome brew, made the whole trip to NC worthwhile for me. I did have seconds and thirds of this! Bravo!

Rating #300. Handbottle tasted at Saarlander’s SoCal tasting with saarlander, cquiroga, dirty_martini & kittiesandbeer, JohnC and others. Thanks to Chris, cquiroga, for bringing this awesome rare gem. The brewery is close to my parents house, so I hope to visit sometime this year. Small head with fine bubbles with dark black color. Super flavorful, reminiscent of Rasputinwith it’s mloasses, brown sugar and caramel sweetness. Delicious!
