Bottle acquired via trade with emacgee -- many thanks. Pours black as advertised with a pillowy brown head. Smells and tastes of a combination of baker’s & dark cocoa, oatmeal, dark fruit (predominatly plums), rasisin, and faint hops. I was expecting something much sweeter, but this was one of the most balanced and smooth stouts I’ve yet to have. Sexual Chocolate!

Dark black with a short lived head. Sweet chocolate and alcohol aroma. Big chocolate, mild spice, more chocolate, fruit, and coffee taste to the finish.

22oz bottle, #427 of 600, courtesy of sirpsycho, thanks Mark. Dark pour with a decent lacing tan head. Chocolate, cocnut, vanilla aroma. Pretty smooth, more chocolate, a little friuty and a coffe dryness in the end.

Many thanks to Jake for his incredible generosity! I’m really greatful for the opportunity to even try this.

Number 183 of 600. Vintage 2009.

Pours a bit lighter than I was expecting for an imperial stout of this caliber. Beautiful head however quickly made me forget the previous. Quite a bit of hop aroma wafting up from my snifter. Had to dig quite a bit to find some bits of chocolate. Really pretty shocked at the amount of IBU’s, but I guess it’s a requirement considering the ABV and balance needed. Plus, this is a pretty young bottle.

Really surprised at the flavour. Right off the bat my palate is hit with a huge amount of tannins, acidity and bitterness from the hops. A small amount of chocolate makes its appearance after this initial wave, but only for a brief moment. After this second surge, a light amount of fusels take over followed by some additional acidity. The palate finishes dry with little lingering character. After the bottle has a chance to breath for awhile, the cocoa comes through a little clearer as does the molasses.

I guess I could chaulk some of this up to the fresh nature of this bottle. There were some raw notes in here, but overall I question how well this might actually age and if the acidity and tannins would mellow all that much over time to a point that the flavour is enhanced. Either way, if you have a bottle I would certainly hold onto it for a good year and try it at that point. Overall, I gotta say I’m perplexed at the hype this receives and really wonder if it’s just a variation in the batch or something else.

Bottle excavated and dragged home by a trained weasel belonging to one Mr. Nbutler11. Appearance is a very bold red-brown and the head is very fluffy, tan, and stalwart. My thoughts on the aroma and flavor are the same: they each carry a very thick figate (fig-date) quality that is melded with a masterfully rich dark cocoa brownie flavor. The combination is outstanding, but as the dark fruit lacks tartness or spiciness, the chocolate/fruit can only combine with each other, not enhance. Reminds me very much of Dark Sky, only thicker and more brownie-like.

Bottle, big ups to ucusty. Aroma of cocoa powder, bitter chocolate, milky chocolate, molasses, rich malt. Flavor has all those notes in addition to lovely currant and dark cherry notes, making for a phenomenal meshing of complexities. Full bodied and smooth. Awesome.

Pours black as night with a medium brown head Smells strongly of a dry dark cocoa powder, light scents of bitter black coffee tastes of a milkier chocolate than the nose gives off, creamy mouthfeel, residual sugars.

Bottle. Pours jet black with a good sized chocolate head with nice lacing. Big chocolate, coffee, toffee and toasted malts with a dash of hops to keep this brew from being too sweet and overbearing with chocolate and coffee. Finish was very creamy and smooth with tons of creamy chocolate goodness.......great stuff.
