The aroma was roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate, dark caramel, and coffee. Some dark juicy fruit was added to the flavor and the chocolate became sweeter and some alcohol appeared near the end. Nice roasty finish. robertjm (418), El Cerrito, California, USA

The label and name got me hooked to add it to my Wanted List! This was bottle 117 of 500. Upon popping the cap very little carbonation sound. Escapes the bottle with a thick glug, glug, glug. Light ring of dark tan foam around my glass. Aroma is loaded with expresso and molasses scents. Body is absolutely chewy. Feel like I’m eating plums with a black chocolate chaser. Expresso traits taunting me in the aftertaste. Warming in the throat after a few sips. This is an awesome stout. Not overly burnt in the flavor, but a step above porter. Was expecting lots of sludge at the bottom of the bottle, but there was none. mar (1973), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 26, 2009 Sampled at DLD ’09 thanks to kp! Poured a very nice dark pour, black with some brown notes, with tannish brown head that clings a bit. Aromas show roasted malts and coffee, with bittersweet chocolate rearing into the fold. Flavors are similar, showing good roast and good balancing bitterness from the coffee and semi-sweet chocolate. A decent body, with a tuch of dark fruit and chocolate seemingly winning the race to the backend of the beer. Alcohol hidden well at this point. Bitterness stands up at the end, but chocolate was strong. Pretty good. Cheers! blutt59 (2186), Dallas, Texas, USA
