picking up a really nice sweet licorice character in the aroma,
initially picked up a bit of chalky bitterness in the flavor but it quickly settled back down to its wonderful self,

dkachur (891), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Oct 5, 2008 Draft. Dark brown pour with a good sized head. Strong roasted malt aroma with coffee and bitter and leafy hop notes. Taste is roasted malts, coffee, hops, powdered cocoa, figs, raisin, nuts and citrus. Very hoppy and full bodied. Collint (348), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Sep 29, 2008 Draft at Brewgrass 2008. Oh my jesus christ monkey balls, this was my favorite beer that I sampled at Brewgrass. Pours a black beer with a big tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee roast and molasses. Very creamy and bitter beer with an alcohol bite. I really enjoyed sipping this one, one of my favorite IMPY Stouts. durhambeer (535), Durham, USA Sep 23, 2008 Bottle, aged about 7 months. Dark pour with generous deep tan head. Surprisingly not as sweet as I remembered from the various samples I’ve had at festivals. Smells of roasted malts and bitter chocolate with some coffee notes. Big roasty malts (molasses, soy sauce, burnt sugar) and hop presence up front, but the bitter chocolate comes through nicely at the end, making the finish quite smooth. A touch thinner on the palate than I expected. I generally do not like chocolate stouts, and I thought this might be overrated due to its rarity. I still think it is, but not by much. A very good beer. sebletitje (372), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 20, 2008 Courtesy of Foothills’ own Wayne Wambles.
Pours a deep black with brownish head.
Aroma of chocolate.
Taste, lots of chocolate, thick mouthfeel, roasted malts, light chocolate bitterness.
Up there with the best of chocoloate beers. glkaiser (999), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 14, 2008 Thanks to bitbucket tasting. Lots of black licrocie, chocolate and some coffee. Stays fairly smooth but the flavor keeps coming through. Good, but could be a bit fuller.
