nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Oct 6, 2009 On tap at GABF 2009. Black in color with a medium-sized, thick tan head. Aroma pretty standard, yet well-done, coffee, chocolate, and roast. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, and anise. Slightly sweet. Body is medium and the mouthfeel is smooth, with medium-low carbonation. This is no Sexual Chocolate for sure, but it is good. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Oct 4, 2009 2009 GABF Saturday. Had a couple samples of this while waiting for Sexual Chocolate to come on tap! Certainly no slouch, however. Strong roasty, chocolate notes with a milky-smooth body. Finish is long but semi-dry. A great drinking stout! nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 24, 2009 Draft at the brewery. Opaque with a ring of creamy bubbles. Aroma is espresso, dark chocolate and oak. Flavor is smoky molasses, espresso, charred wood and vanilla, Medium-heavy body is chewy but not sticky, smoothish and roasty-dry. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA May 17, 2009 Sampled via roving 64-oz growler during Dark Lord Day ’09. Pours a dark, near opaque, clear brown brew with a creamy and thick off-white head that slowly disipates to a fine film and off-white head. Some spotty lacing but still quite thick. Aroma of sweet black malt, toasted multi-grain malt and a touch of sweetened coffee. Taste is medium to full bodied, very light carbonation with a grainy texture. Flavors has mostly dark toasted multi-grain malt with little hop presence. Finish is slightly dry with a dark toasted malt aftertaste along with a short lived mild bitterness. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA May 2, 2009 tap at brewpub. Actually not that dark- very dark brown with a thin but lasting head. Lots of roasted barley in the aroma- nutty, burtn chocoalte malts, toffee, and a slight minty licorice hint. Flavor is dark choclate hints of coffee, and a nutty burnt roasted barley, toffee, and a moderate sweetness- hints of earth as well. Finishes fairly dry for 7%. wingman333 (233), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Apr 1, 2009 Was hoping for a taste of the imperial stout but had to settle for this as none was available. Dark black with caramel head. Very chalky and left my mouth with a dryish feeling. Flavors not readily apparent. Disappointing. chandler0201 (341), Durham, North Carolina, USA Mar 18, 2009 Had this at the Foothills Brewery. Dark brown/black pour with small white head. Roasted and chocolate aromas and flavors, some coffee in the finish. Nice version of a stout. dkachur (2316), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Mar 4, 2009 Served on draft at the brewery.
