| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 8, 2007 Draft at FB. Dense, opaque black pour, glimmering with oils. A rich, thick tan head impart gorgeous lacing. The aroma is of heavily roasted grains, over-toasted bread, chocolate, coffee, balck raspberry and orange pulp. Alcohol is well concealed. The flavor is great, with notes of dense dark chocolates, more roast and light hops. Bitterness is fair to moderate, sweetness is mild, acidity low. A very good recipe, well executed thus far. Mouthfeel is robust, creamy and lightly but adequately carbonated. Finishes with roasted coffee notes, chocolate and breadiness lingering. Extremely drinkable. Very well done. jimbowood (970), Athens, Georgia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 7, 2007 Draft @ Barley’s Asheville. The presence of an imp stout w/ more drinkability. Kind of like a semi-imperial stout. Full mouthfeel. Very nice. alexanderj (2280), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 17, 2007 Draft at the brewery; found it pretty good for the style, but nothing exceptional. Fairly dry, with chocolate and coffee the primary flavors. Very good mouthfeel. RCL (1496), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 25, 2007 On tap at the brewery. Very good. Aroma is of cappucino, and the taste is a nice mix of coffee and chocolate. mhelgason (495), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 19, 2007 Tap @ Barley’s Asheville. Large, light brown head. Black body. Strong chocolate/dry cocoa aromas with burnt malts, light vinousnous, and hops. Texture is very dry in a very pleasant way-very well balanced. I was not sure what I was going to get, but I was very impressed. bboven (103), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
| 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | May 18, 2007 The best stout I’ve tasted to date. This beer has an amazing bitterness that wrestles with the toffee-coffee-chocolate notes the whole way. Let this one warm up for a while as it comes out very cold from the taps. muddyfeet (72), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 3, 2007 Went with this selection earlier today because we are due for a total lunar eclipse tonight. Pours a midnight black. Slight, tan head. Nose is dark, roasted malts and just a hitn of coffee.
Flavor is heavily roasted grains. Burnt coffee tones. Also, a bit of a sulphuric tang going on as well. Picked out little bits of dark chocolate and toffee in the background as well. Medium body. Flavors rounded off a bit as the beer warmed. Nice and drinkable.
