This beer has an amazing bitterness that wrestles with the toffee-coffee-chocolate notes the whole way. Let this one warm up for a while as it comes out very cold from the taps. zizzybalubba (399), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 13, 2009 From a growler purchased at Foothills and consumed the same day. Dark brown, nearly black, pour with a thick and creamy tan head. Sweet chocolate, dark roasted espresso, and smoky aroma. Rich, wonderful dark chocolate and coffee flavors. Easy to drink. An excellent stout from Foothills. jimbowood (964), Athens, Georgia, USA

Gorgeous midnight pours into the glass with a thick mahoganey head. Nice roasted malt on the nose with an off dry caramel malt suggestion. Espresso, fresh brewed, exudes from the glass and dances on the palate with sweet malt and earthy chocolate. I would almost call this a coffee stout, even though none goes in to the kettle.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 15, 2007 Draught at Tyr Na Nog in downtown raleigh. Pours black with a brown head. Aroma is roasty, with licorice, chocolate and coffee. Similar flavor, nice bitterness on back end with a pleasant but not overpowering hop presence. Little bit of alcohol in aftertaste, but not much. Smooth, and heavy all at the same time. durhambeer (1229), Durham, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Tried this a few beers into the evening, so who knows... but I loved it. Full flavor, toasty malts and great flavors. Nice medium brown head and a great body. Nice flavors of toasted barley, chocolate, mocha. Liked the fact that it wasn’t super high alcohol. Wish this was available in bottles, but glad it’s local and relatively available on tap. freekyp (903), Thomasville, North Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 9, 2006 Opaque black with a fluffy tan head, and oodles of lacing, Total Eclipse is full bodied and assertive. Dark chocolate and roasty malt dominate the flavor and the chewy palate is great match for blackened beef or chicken. A fantastic stout.
