Commercial Description:
Our Copperhead Ale is a copper colored German-style Altbier, with a light, malty sweetness and a pronounced hop flavor. Alt is the German word for old, referring to the older style of ale brewing. Altbier is Germany's pale ale. Copperhead Ale is top-fermented, making it an ale and it has a medium body. It has hints of maltiness and hoppiness in its aroma, with a definite hop flavor and a medium hop bitterness. Altbier is predominately brewed in the northern part of Germany, especially Dusseldorf and gets its "sweet roast" flavor and copper color from caramunich malts.

Not much aroma, appearance is light, but flavor is ok, pleasent on the palate. I had this one at Where Pigs Fly in Dover De. I choose it over Coors, the only other choice on the menu was Bud which I avoid like the plague. This brew went fine with the slab of ribs at this nice Dover eatery. Next time I eat there I’ll order it again, inless the put a new beer on the menu.

I knew this was either an alt or something similar. Fairly malty and caramely, semi sweet. Nice tastes initially. But sort of flat and lacking body. Overall pretty dissapointing.

THOUGHTS: A nice, easy-drinking beer. Tons of flavor and aroma. Hops were more noticeable in the flavor than in the aroma. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium, orangey copper, sort of like rusty water with a small to average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left virtually no lacing. The aroma was moderate dark bread, toasted and caramel malts; light grassy and earthy hops and raisins. The initial flavor was bitter, rather sweet and a little acidic; while the finish was slightly sweet and bitter with an average to long duration. The was caramel, bready and nutty malts, earthy, metallic and grassy hops and a little raisin. The medium body was syrupy with fizzy carbonation and a slightly metallic finish with a hint of dryness.

Draft: Pungent aroma of vinegar and gym socks, with walnut notes. Clear amber with a thick tan head. Walnut and gym sock flavor.Creamy mouthfeel with vanilla and black pepper left on the palate. Alcohol is very evident, almost to an obnoxious extent for the style. Pretty poorly produced.

Cloudy amber pour, with a ready nose. Just not a lot going on here. Not bad, just neutral.

Serving: Draft. Appearance: Light amber orange with a small, foamy, off-white head. Poor head retention. Aroma: Malty nose with nutty and bready notes. I am not getting much on the hop side. Flavor: Watery malt notes, some nuttiness, a weak back bitterness and some sweet notes from the malt. Pitiful stuff. Palate: Medium carbonation with light, watery mouthfeel and a short finish. Overall: Pretty crappy and insulting to call this an Alt.

Bottle: Poured an amber orange with a small head. The aroma was malty bread. The flavor was sweet malts, grains and slight hops. Overall, weak flavor but easy to drink.

On draught at Washington Nationals Park. The beer is amber with a medium thin and foamy light beige head that dissipates steadily. Spotty lacing on the cup. Sweet malty aroma with just a bit of hops. Medium body with flavors of sweet malt and hops plus a hint of nuts. The finish is clean and malty with some sweetness left over. Average overall, and if I knew this was an Altbier when I ordered it I would have been disappointed, but as far as beers go that one can find in an MLB ballpark, I was satisfied.
