nuplastikk (462), Maryland, USA Mar 15, 2008 12oz bottle. Amber-orange color. Minimal creamy head. Amber malt aroma jumps out at you, a little pungent, perhaps due to age. The taste is malty sweet, with a smooth and faint spice flavor coming through as well. This might well be the yeast, which also imparts a mellow fruity twang to match the alcohol content, which remains a mystery with this one. Probably much better brewery fresh. kmweaver (2125), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Jan 29, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a clear, bright orange-brown color; off-white head with patchy fine-bubbled lacing. Syrupy aroma showing candy sugar and maple syrup; slightly off and overly sweet. Average carbonation. Sticky cotton candy, sugar, and basic wet malts in a medium-to-full mouthfeel: decent enough heft and feel in the mouth, but the taste is unpleasant: metal, cardboard, and overly sticky; just not good and difficult to drink. Medium finish showing cardboard and sugar. Looks good, and that’s the best part. guzzler67 (1153), Hanover, Maryland, USA Jan 25, 2008 Clear copper appearance with a small, off white head and a fair amount of lacing. Low keyed, malty, toffeeish aroma. Earthy, peaty taste with some soft fruit trailing behind. Light-to-medium bodied, decently carbonated mouthfeel leading to a dry, slightly spicy, short lived finish. argo0 (6230), Washington DC, USA Jan 11, 2008 (12oz bottle) Medium off-white head that mostly dissipates. Aroma is moderately sweet, cherry, caramel, light smoke. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, some smoke, cherry/raisin, light metallic, alcohol. Medium body, some stickiness. GvStraaten (5), Baltimore, Maryland, USA does not count Dec 11, 2007 Draft and bottle. This beer tastes just as good out of the bottle as is does on draught. Hints of caramel are apparent with subtle beechwood smokiness. Smooth, light body. My friends that claim to hate "dark beer" loved this brew. I do too.
