Flavorful brown sugar and caramel (lots of caramel, almost tastes like theay actually added it). And as is proving to be typical for big malt bombs, there is a slight tinniness in the aftertaste. Highly recomended for malt lovers everywhere. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 23, 2003 Aroma of alcohol and nuts. Good malty sweetness, but although the finish had some roast/rum taste, it came off a litte watery. Other than that, no complaints. Good stuff. Perkeo (318), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 21, 2003 Dark red/brown, with a fabulous billowing head; raisins, apricots, figs and milk chocolate on the nozzum. Wonderfully rich maltiness on the palate, with a spicy finish, cognac and crushed red pepper flakes mingle with an iron-like flavor, all most suggesting ageing in oak, though I'm pretty damn sure that's not the case here. A rich, distinctive dopplebock, one of the 2 best Italian examples, really knock-out wonderful stuff! BillKismet (1959), Seattle, Washington, USA

A lovely sea of malt greets the nose, medium sweet aroma of dusty malt balls. Nice roasted malt ball flavor with a delighful muskiness and sweetness on the palate as well as a brown sugar vein. Alcohol becomes more apparent towards the end of the glass and tickles the palate. Quite a treat and a fabulous, well balanced introduction to the style. CEZ (373), Milano, Italy
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 2, 2003 Well, I'm impressed. Dark amber colour, almost brown, with a good-looking head. Malt, chocolate, toasted grain. Excellent bittersweet compromise. Surprinsingly drinkable. Maybe be a bit on the light side for those who love stronger doppelbocks, but it's perfect for me. adv (22), Milan, Italy

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2003 Nice dark red colour, good persistent head. Hints of caramel in the aroma. The flavour is moderately sweet and malty with traces of caramel and coffee. Lightly bitter in the aftertaste. Probably the best Italian commercial beer, pleasant and very drinkable. Much better on tap than bottled. It is defined by the brewery a "doppelbock" but it's more similar to a dunkel beer.
