Tasted 3/22/08. 22oz bomber. Clear with a ruby brown hue. Layer of off-white head. Nutty and cocoa nose. Medium bodied with mild tight effervescence. Nice brown ale characteristics. Bready nutty and fudgy. Nice hop bitterness in the finish. Grassy hop flavor. Nutty and toasty. Closeout at Whole Foods for $1.49. For that price, it’s a steal.

Bomber. Red and brown clear filtered body. Big toast and charred bread crust and walnut nose. Hoppy but far too starchy and coarse on the palate, tastes like burnt chestnuts, toasted bread, stale bran, and mashy graham crackers. Really, really terrible about halfway through a glass.

22oz bottle, courtesy of acrdz. Thanks, Mike! Pours a clear, medium orange-amber color; khaki head with patchy, fine-bubbled lacing. Light aroma, showing sugar and toffee and some caramel; tea-like malts. Medium mouthfeel: tea, wet malts, cereal, and some bread; average carbonation; not much here; slightly astringent and chalky, with a touch of mineral bitterness. Not quite a rollercoaster of taste excitement. Medium finish, showing cereal, toasty grains, and sugar.

Courtesy of acrdz. Clear dark amber body with a small beige. Malty, nutty nose with caramel, graham cracker and flowers. The flavor is lightly sweet with graham cracker, dough, toffee, plums and herbs. Medium body is rough with moderate carbonation.

Thin off-white head of fine bubbles. Good carbonation. Dry and dusty aroma with some roasted grains, ash, bitter tea and a bit of smoke. Color is a very nice mahagony with a bit of crimson thrown in. Dry and roasty flavor with a big push of coffee up front. Mellows out a bit with some bitterness and dry malts with another hint of smoke. Some spices in there also. Not what I expected from this brew. Quite a bit of flavor in this brew and certainly more than expected. Finishes ashy and dry with a some lingering malts. An interestinmg brew.

Pours a fogged brown that has a very small creme head that falls to nothing in no time. Nose is leafy and sweet in nature. Flavor is smooth. Nice earthy tone, but a lot of sweet edge to it. A bit too overdone, IMO. Feel is smooth on liquid and there is a decent carbonation. This is overall a pretty good brown ale. I wouldn’t go for it again, and I don’t know how I feel about having a whole bomber of it. But hey. I will live.

2/8/08: Bottle.
Burnt garnet red-brown body clear with slight lace. Roasted, sweet toffee malt nose. Flavor is nutty & coffee like with bitter hops and a watery sweetness. Finish is also sweet.

22oz bomber(courtesy of RSRIZZO)-A medium to dark amber body with a huge off white/tan head and an aroma of hazelnut, roasted malt, toffee, and a little coffee. Taste of hazelnut and more hazelnut with some malt mixed in. I think a nice tasting brew. If you don’t like hazelnut you probably will not care for this. Good brew.
