Dry, dusty roast and chocolate flavored coffee in the nose, with corn and caramel sweetness that’s a little overdone and a little aritificial, but overall it smells pretty nice. Light to moderate thickness for the gravity, with a pasty, moderately dry texture. Tastes of dry, starchy chocolate candies and potatoes, with some toasted bread and a moderate presence of roasted malt. There’s really not a lot wrong with it, it just comes across as a little weak and thin, and I think I’d go for a few others before I picked this one, but it’s a decent drink and there’s nothing to get overly-critical about. Chocolate is present throughout though.... ChainGangGuy (2619), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Feb 9, 2008 Acquired as a single 12oz. bottle at Sam’s Blue Light in Durham, NC.
Appearance: Pours a black body with a large, fizzy beige head.
Smell: Mostly a roasty scent, but sniff hard enough and hope long enough and you can coax out some unsweetened chocolate and a vague hint of fruit.
Taste: Roasted barley and dark chocolate with a controlled level of sweetness and a puff of sooty air. Touch of fruit. Dash of coffee. Light hops and bitterness. Dry finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Flavorful, though not overly chocolatey and a bit light in body, but it’s still a decent stout. TyRip (40), Canton, Ohio, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 4/20 | Feb 6, 2008 This beer smells great, with some toasty, burnt malt and chocolate, but then it all falls hideously short after that. The taste is so thin, over carbonated and watery. It tastes like soda water with a hint of burnt malt at the finish. wow... RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Pours extremely dark brown. Only when held to light do you see a wee bit of ruby. Even off a firm pour, there is no true head. Nose is dusty. Flavor is so-so. Lack of character. Lack of depth. Mild malt tones. No real strong chocolate character at all. Feel is a bit thin on the liquid, but it does have a strong carbonation. Overall, there isn’t much to this one. It just doesn’t have any level of punch I’d expect it to. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA

Dense black with a thick and frothy light tan head and speckled lacing. Smells like Snickers candy bars and chocolate pudding. This almost has a hint of that cheap chocolate chemical smell and taste too. Decent palate. Flavor is similar to a chalky cocoa powder mix. Drying as well. Smooth and some creaminess to it. Drinkable but a bit lack luster in the flavor and palate. However, it has a stronger aftertaste than flavor. jasonp (1514), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 21, 2008 Bottle, courtesy of Argo0. Pours dark brown almost black with a quickly fading head. Roastiness, then somewhat of an odd stale cereal aroma and a little cherry. Flavor has notes of roasted barley, chocolate a touch of coffee and caramel, toffee and cola. Not too burnt or bitter. Moderately sweet. Medium bodied with pretty lively carbonation for a stout. Not really memorable, but solid overall. kmweaver (2501), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours a dark, clear chocolate-brown color; light-tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Light aroma, showing bitter chocolate, light citrus, and roasted malts; a bit reserved, with some oily nuttiness coming through. Medium mouthfeel: roasted malts, bitter chocolate and cocoa; a slight burnt malt character, almost smoky or charred, like beef jerky; a rustic, drinkable chocolate stout. Medium finish, showing toasted malts and biscuity notes.
