The aroma is yeasty with some roasted malt and fruitiness to it along with a lactose-like quality. It is really quite unappealing. The flavor is roasty, but there really isn’t very much chocolate flavor. The finish is quite roasty/bordering on near burnt with some dark chocolate nuances. The flavor seems to worsen with each drink.. Overall this beer is on the sweeter side and has a medium to medium-full body. It is smooth on the palate with an average level of carbonation. This beer goes down quick, but I think it might be because I am trying to get it finished up and over with so that I can move on to something better!

The aroma is a mixture of chocolate and coffe with some hints of dark fruit. The flavor is smooth and has a roasted flavor. There is some chocolate to the taste but it is weak. nearbeer (1834), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jun 9, 2007 Updated: Oct 3, 2008Bottle. Opaque black with small head that tries to last. Aroma is coffee, molasses, and chocolate. Taste is sweetish on the front then smoked wood, resiny hops, and chicory coffee. Palate is smooth and a bit dry, with a medium body. Quality beer, but just too much char-roasted barley flavor for my tastes. jimbowood (954), Athens, Georgia, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 31, 2007 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is predominantly roasted malts, slight cho and a little lactose sweetness. Flavor is again mostly roasted malts, with a smidge of hops and some cho/coffee notes. A little thin and on the watery side. Nothing offensive, yet nothing of note. islay (476), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 30, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Simplistic aroma features roasted coffee beans, a touch of tar, and some hops. Pours a near black dark brown with a dark amber hue and a small amount of short-lasting tan head. Produces some lacing. The flavor begins sharp, lemony, and bitter. I expected a chocolate sweetness implied in the name to emerge thereafter, but the flavor fails to progress to such a state. Surprisingly light, slightly bitter aftertaste. Medium body. Soft in the palate. Low in carbonation. Easy to drink. Fort Collins Chocolate Stout isn’t a bad beer; it simply isn’t very good. raymow (738), Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 24, 2007 A pretty good chocolate stout. Not very high in alcohol (as many beers of this style). Dark, rich color and malty chocolate flavor. RAYBOY01 (1834), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 24, 2007 Sample thanks to Cornfield: Bid rich and roasty aroma drifting from the intensely black pour. The flavors were roasted barley, chocolate, cocoa, espresso, and burnt brown sugar. The palate was just a touch too thin, but not distractingly so. The hop bitterness shows up mainly in the finish...quite strong but not oppresive. Very well made beer.
