radiomgb (1730), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jul 2, 2008 Deep mahogany in colour, creamy beige coloured head, good lacing. The aroma is smoky, roasted malts, very light chocolate. The flavour is smoky at first, malt, caramel and chocolate come next. Smoky mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with a light sweetness, lingering.
Pretty good smoked beer, doesn’t drink like its over 10%. Well done.

pnista (884), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jun 3, 2008 Thanks for sharing this one Yaniv! Pours a darker brownish amber with a creamy head. Subtle fruity nose with suggestions of smoke over a caramel malt backbone. Subtle smooth small bubbled body. Sweet malty fruity over a bit of bacony delicious smoke. Lingering bacon. This is like a bigger sweeter, less smoky, Schlenkerla Marzen. Really a very nice beer! pint_size (1004), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 2, 2008 5-17-08 bottle thanks to BlackForestCO. Thanks Jakey!
Clear red brown with some thin off white head and no lacing. Smell is smokey malt. Flavor is malty and somewhat smoky. Strange sweet aftertaste. Medium bodied with a decent mouthfeel overall. The flavor just wasn’t very appetizing. GarrettB (396), Centennial, Colorado, USA May 23, 2008 A proudly displayed and well drawn stein augur well for this beer, coming from a locally loved brewery. Though of German stock, I hope that a Coloradan brewery can pull of a healthy and flavor doppelbock. Luckily, I find that not only is it tasty, but addicting for all the wrong reasons. This Dopplebock pours an incredibly deep, cooling lava red. Without bright light it is little more than a shadowy glass of beer with trace highlights of crimson. I note here that it is "breathtaking." The bit about this beer being addicting comes in the aroma. Imagine if you will the scents of gourmet dog food, dog biscuits, sweet honey barbeque sauce and moist gardening soil all bundled into a drinkable package. I’d expect reactions to range between "Huh?" and "You crazy boy!" but to be honest it is a good, sweet, smoky and filling flavor. Strange, yes, but I try not to take brewed flavor’s for granted. Despite the power of modern science, brewing can still be a matter of happenstance, chance and a little unintended creativity. At least sometimes. The taste, in summary, is dark, easy and sweet. In exegesis, it is the same quirky smells found in the aroma, partially masked by a healthy carbonation. Thus, in the aftertaste, when much of the gaseousness has escaped into the oral cavity, the flavors become very pronounced - the barbeque all the smokier, the dog food all the doggier. The flavors glom onto the tongue and melt into the taste buds with their smoky and sweet flavors. Simple, straightforward and delicious. lb4lb (1340), Austin, Texas, USA May 17, 2008 Bottle courtesy of BlackForestCO. Thanks Jake!
Pours maroonish with a thin offwhite head. Smell is sweet and smoky. Like a sweet smoky bbq session. Taste is strongly smoky and rich in flavor. Somewhat of a tart, toasty and bitter finish along with some smoke, and the 10+% is hidden very well. Medium bodied with nice carbonation. Pretty good smoked beer with a nice mollassesy touch.
