12oz bottle. pours very dark red with small white head. nose is very smokey, smoked meats! really smokey for sure. hmm smokey. flavor has lots of smoked meats, the smoke is wonderful and still has some classic doppelbock notes come through with crisp sweet caramel, plums, and toasted biscuit. alc well hidden. body med. sure it’s more in the smoked side but does find the middle ground between the two style. brillant. a real surprise from this brewery. flavor is tad not smokey enough and cloyingly sweet. i do like this but i’m not sure i would drink more than 1 bottle, but big ups to fort collins for this one.

bottle shared by Dickinsonbeer at his place. Deep amber in color. Aroma is alot of sweet caramel as well as smoke, for some reason I wasn’t crazy about the aroma on this beer- smoke and caramel didn’t mesh well to me personally. I did like the taste alot more which was alot of sweet smooth caramel with a good deal of smoke throughout the taste.

12 oz bottle shared with willblake. Poured a reddish/brown with a small head. Aroma on this was smokey and sweet, very different indeed and I thought it was great. Medium mouthfeel with some lively carbonation dancing on my tongue. The smoke was less intense in the flavor where the sweetness took over a little bit followed by a lightly bitter aftertaste. I rather enjoyed this beer (Jon not so much)

12 oz bottle. Clear brown, crimson edges. Lumpy tan head hangs around. Smoky brown sugar and dark fruits. Crisp carb with an almost medium body. Sticky dates, coffee and a touch of smoke. Finishes with Baker’s chocolate and dry grass. Smooth for the strength.

Bottle from Crosling. Really interesting and unique aroma on this one: buttery, garlicky green olives. Actually quite nice. A bit of underlying smoke. Pour is obviously filtered with a nice foam cap. A bit of olive in the flavor though a decent amount of sweetness, with smoke in the finish. Just now saw this was 10%... wow! Feels more like 6, honestly. A well done beer.

Pours a deep amber color with a little off white head. Aroma is smoky, malty, peaty. Flavor is peaty, malty, and some roastiness to it. Good bock.

So, is it one of the best dopplebocks I’ve had in ages? Before I tell you that, we need to go over a few things. Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with ruby hues around the edge and a khaki-colored head. Smell: A malty caramel aroma with a delicate, yet meaty, smokiness pervades the nose. Also, there’s some light, fruity notes hidden just beneath the smokescreen. Taste: A healthy dose of caramel malt starts the flavor crisscrossed by the earnest, ever-present smokiness. The dark fruitiness is more expressive in the flavor, showing up as plums and raisins. Hints of brown sugar and chocolate, too. Gorgeous. That’s a gorgeous taste they’ve got there. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Gentle carbonation and a reasonably creamy mouthfeel. Drinkability: A supremely enjoyable, well-balanced beer. I really wish I could get a six-pack, listen to some Pinback, and get my picture taken with the bottle.
