Thanks to hopdog for sharing this one. Pours a translucent ruby amber with a smaller bubbly off white head. Aroma of smoked meats with a toasty sweet maltiness, some various fruits, nuts and toffee. Flavor of an up front smokiness, woody, followed by a malty caramel sweetness. The smoked Doppelbock thing works out nicely on this one.

[bottle, thanks to TAR] Very powerful smoke aroma, with some maltiness as well. Meaty. heavy, smoked malt flavors really dominate, with slight fruit sweetness underneath it all. Dark and earthy finish, like wood and cigar. Alcohol is very well hidden, providing warmth in the end.

Clear dark amber pour, thin off white head with cream/golden hues. Actually looks a little bit greasy. Well retained but diminutively sized head. This resembles a liquid form of a Cracker Barrel breakfast. Aroma has a nice malty profile entwined with copious bacony smoke. Smokiness is bold and aggressive, stimulating and nearly burning. A little woodiness, brown sugar and some earthiness round out the simple but alluring nose. Alcohol is very well masked. Exceptionally well done in the aromatic department. A fine taste as well. Medium intensity flavor comes through with fruity and mildly grainy malts at first. Fruit basket and mild sweet smoke in mid-mouthfeel. then the great part: smoke steadily builds, as does roasted malt, providing an elegant finish that is both sweet and dry, absolutely hysterically quaffable. Palate is medium-light to medium-full, somewhat smooth. This is really surprising, a stellar recipe that showcases craftsmanship I really had no idea was available from Fort Collins.

This is great, great beer. It’s close to perfection. If you like smoked beers as I do then you will love this. The 10.2% ABV is not noticed at all in the flavor. Well done!

Thanks to HopGod for this one, which was stellar. First of all, I am astounded that this one was 10.2% ABV. Amazing. Perhaps the best hidden alcohol ever. I also love rauch beers, so perhaps I am a bit biased. At any rate, the pour was deep ruby with 2-finger khaki head. Aroma of big, smoky caramel malt, slight dark fruit, and some briwn sugar. The taste is very smoky, with a firm caramel malt bill, plus some port wine, scotch, and frankfurters. Rich, smoky, decadent palate, with a complex, smooth finish. This one is exceptional.

Pours a dark hazy brown color with thick off-white head. Aroma is a nice amount of smoke, sweet malt. and a nose of dark fruit. Taste is very sweet with healthy amounts of malt, smoke, slight bittering hops and again, some light fruitiness. This beer hides the alcohol amazingly well. Nicely carbonated and very interesting. Great beer.

Well, I’ve been told that I’m not going to like it since this is a smoked beer...indeed, the aroma is very smokey, like bacon or salami - maybe some malts, but not very many...the body is a bit more balanced: strongly malty, somewhat syrupy, and definetly pretty sweet. Sticky, bitter finish. The smokiness doesn’t fit too well for the style, IMHO.

Many thanks to beastiefan2k for gifting this bottle to me (you rock, Eugene!) - clear reddish copper pour, with a short-lived head - very intensely smokey aroma, with charred hickory and various other woody notes (it smells like the embers left from a campfire when you crawl out of your tent in the morning), and some suprisingly tart, musty, earth smells - 10.2% alcohol? - if it is, it is well-hidden, because this stuff is smoooooth - not as much smoke flavor as the aroma suggests, but it’s still nice and strong - mild caramel sweetness - some light toffee as well, with touches of roasted nuts - the smoke really keeps the malt sweetness in check - a hint of alcohol swells up near the finish, but it mingles with a subtle spicy character that makes the slight burn warming and welcome - quite an interesting brew.
