Pours a clear dark reddish brown with an average sized beige head. Nose is a nice smoky malty toffee, roasted chocolate, yeast and slightly alcoholic.....and it tastes exactly like it smells, so really nothing to add there. A smoky dopplebock? Funky but good!! Mod/high carbonation, medium body. Alc well hidden....enuff to get you seriously accidently &$^# up if you were borderline already... This is a great and perhaps the only smoked dopplebock, and it would be greater with less carbonation. Dickinsonbeer (3517), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA

Pours a clear deep mahagony woody amber with a thinning whitish head, and some nice lacing. Aroma is tons of toasted malts, caramel, nuts, light chocolate, woody, beechwood smoky, like a toned down version of schlenkerla. Nice deep thcik caramel flavors, dark toasted malts, almost burnt, bready, smokey, wood, nuts, almonds, chocolate and smoked meats. Full smooth body and mouthfeel- long lagering really helped this. 10+% are you kidding me? This was awesome. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 4, 2007 Go to your fridge. Take out bacon. Turn stovetop to high. Add one entire stick of butter and cook with the bacon on high. That will give you the exact aroma of this beer! Brown in appearance with red hues mixed in. The palate is full and smooth. Taste is creamy and smokey and meaty and malty. I’m not a huge smoked fan, but this one was quite good. Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma was full of smokey malts and wood. The taste was smokey, malty, and sweet with the wood coming though at the end. Full bodied and smooth tasteing. Really pretty beer to look at. Acually seemed to shimmer in the glass....or was I feeling the effects?Hmmmmm footbalm (1219), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

I really enjoyed this brew as the smoked bacon bits had my taste buds going nuts. This would be a nice brew to have in the fridge all winter long. Very good and thanks to Jason for this one. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 18, 2007 When held up to the light the is beer shows a brilliantly clear, deep, ruby red color that otherwise sits a drab, dark amber-brown color in my tulip glass. The head starts out at three fingers thick, and slowly recede to a crown of light tan colored froth that never disappears entirely. The aroma is certainly smoky, but there are some other notes underneath the dominant smoke character. A touch of caramel-like sweetness, a hint of bready malt and perhaps even a touch of caramelized raisins are all at least subtly noticeable. But really this beers aroma is all about the smoke, but I would not say that it is over the top in any way. ,br>
The beer is fairly sweet up front, though not in a sticky, sugary way, instead it is the type of rich sweetness that is quite appropriate for a Doppelbock. Malty sweet driven notes are quite bread-like at times (if you can imagine that); I get notes of caramel, large Maillard malt by-products and browned rustic bread crust. Of course there are smoke flavors here too, but they are note nearly as pronounced as the aroma would have suggested. It infuses a smoky back drop to all of the rich, typical Doppelbock flavors; adding a bit more complexity to an already complexly malty brew. This is quite good. I could easily drink a few pints of this, which might be a bit dangerous. In the end this is quite tasty and gone way too fast. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 11, 2007 12oz bottle via trade with BeerandBlues2. Aroma: BBQ potato chips, caramel, toasted nuts. Appearance: Dark brown with orange highlights and clear. Light beige head was full and foamy with great retention. Good lacing. Flavor: caramel, toasted nuts, light grapiness. Smoke is subtle, but present throughout. Nice clean finish. Palate: Medium-full bodied, but a little watery. Moderate carbonation. Alcohol leaves a pleasant warming in back of mouth. Overall: Smoked beers aren’t my favorite, but this one is good. The smoke works well with the toasty and caramel flavors. Nice one.
