Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a foamy tan head over a clear amber body. Aroma is smokey with leather and alcohol. Taste is smoke, apple, vinous and flaked wheat. Light bubbles, very thin mouthfeel for 10.2%.

Bottle courtesy of bu11zeye. Clear red orange pour. Smells of spice and beef pepper. Not smoky though. Has some other heavy malts on the nose. Some heavy flavors but mostly a lot of beef jerky taste. Finish has a fair amount of roastedness. Different for a doppel.

Pours a dark brown with some amber notes in the light. A very dense, bubbly foamy head sits atop the brew. A very rich smoke-malty note emanates from the beer as soon as it’s poured. Upon a closer smell, a very heavy peat note seems to be there, light chocolate, raisin, caramel and Munich malt there as well. Flavor starts off with a strong smoked malt note (as opposed to a smoke additive taste), a very thick caramel, dark chocolate, light raisin and molasses sweetness ending with a lighter apple wood smoke flavor. The beer is supper thick and the very low fine carbonation make this brew perfect. The flavors make it seem like there should be a gritty feeling to go along with this beer at the end from some errant ash falling into the brew. I normally don’t care for smoked beers but this one is terrific. Overall a fantastically done smoked brew in which the smoked flavor is spot on and melds superbly with the sweetness of the doppel bock style.

Large bottle. Pours a dark brown. Thick taste of syrupy malt with a distinct smokiness to it. Interesting beer.

Pours a deep amber/ruby with tan head. Aroma of roasted/smoked caramel malt, fruit, brown sugar. Similar taste with some heavy smoke. Very nice.

Thanks to Solan. 2008 bottle. Cloudy brown. Smokey malt aroma with a little dark fruit and maybe some banana. Flavor of smokey malts with a low carbonation. Not bad.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a thin head over a reddish amber (SRM 27-28) body....nose is sweet dried fruits (cherry, fig, raisin), bit of smoke, molasses, brown sugar.....taste is smoke early, then sweet malts with dried fruit coming on, finishing with a mildly smoky sweetish bitterness....mouth feel is fairly heavy, carbonation low. An interesting experiment, the smoke really does not dominate the complex malts, and is an addition to the style.
