Pours a thin head over a reddish amber (SRM 27-28) body....nose is sweet dried fruits (cherry, fig, raisin), bit of smoke, molasses, brown sugar.....taste is smoke early, then sweet malts with dried fruit coming on, finishing with a mildly smoky sweetish bitterness....mouth feel is fairly heavy, carbonation low. An interesting experiment, the smoke really does not dominate the complex malts, and is an addition to the style. curly (759), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 25, 2009 Pours rich amber. Aroma of bacon and caramel. Very smooth texture and very well balanced between the smoke and sweet. Finishes roasty. Dorwart (1830), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 20, 2009 Thin off-white head of varying sized bubbles. Pretty active carbonation. Distinct smoked jerky meat aroma with a hefty helping of malts and some sweetness. Color is a hazy crimson brown. Sweet and malty flavor, a little too sweet. Strange though that late swallow is pretty dry and pasty. Decent smokiness but it does not dominate the brew. Caramel, molasses, and roasted grains. Noticable alcohol presence and warming that makes the mouth tingle. Finishes sweet and pasty. A decent and strong smoked dopplebock. Interesting version. kramer (2517), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 4, 2009 22 oz bottle, via crosling. Pours a clear mahogany brown body with a small fizzy beige head that faded fairly quickly. The nose has a nice meaty smokiness that works really well with the sweet munich maltiness, perhaps a little more smoke would please me more, but it’s there. The smoke is much more noticeable and up front on the flavor, it’s not up there with the Schlenkerla caliber beers, but it’s enough to please this Rauchbier fan. Clean slightly sweet maltiness throughout, this has been properly lagered and it shows. Certainly on the heftier side, but the alcohol doesn’t really come across in the flavor, it’s more of just a warming sensation as it goes down the chest. Full bodied with nice soft fizzy carbonation that cuts through the sweetness well. Overall, Smoked Dopples just seem to work well and play into my taste preferences nicely, this is no exception. I liked this. scoth (291), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 25, 2009 Pours a medium-dark burnt umber, with a medium cream-colored head, good lacing. Smells smoky with caramel, molasses, plum and hay aromas. Light, smooth body. Tastes of smoked caramel, plum, a little bit salty, with a little bit of lightly-bitter grass in the aftertaste. The smoked characteristic is nice, it’s prominent, but doesn’t overwhelm the other malt flavors. Very drinkable and fairly well-balanced. thegreenrooster (1846), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 21, 2009 Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is some rich malts and an ever so slight dark fruit. Flavor is holy smoke! I did not know this was a smoked till I saw the listing on here. I had thought i had gotten the wrong beer at first. But still its a smoked and i’m not really a fan. If your going to make a dopple don’t doctor it up with some gimick. kseecs16 (914), Naperville, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 19, 2009 Bottle. Sampled at the 2009 Peoria International Beerfest. A dark ruddy brown that just barely shows light at the edges. A light tan head. Aroma is rich dark fruity malts with a hint of smoke. Potent roasty flavor with some sweet malts and hint of smoke. The smoke is more prevalent in the aroma, than the flavor but adds a real nice character overall. waolsen (1224), Littleton, Colorado, USA
