Nose is all malt and chocolate. Taste adds the smokiness. A pretty good combo, but a tad heavy. Mouthfeel is decent and the finish is sweet and smoky. bhensonb (4338), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 9, 2009 Bottle from Liquor Max in Loveland. Dark reddish copper color with a decent beige/tan head. Aroma of smoked. Maybe some caramel. Medium body with medium carbonation. Flavor is smoke over caramel. I think there’s hop, cause there is some bitterness, but the smoke sort of covers the details. Finishes smokey and fairly dry. Really interesting, and the concept of 10.2%? Damn well hidden. There’s a niche for this excellent beer which proves heavy lagers don’t need to be sweet. mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Feb 5, 2009 Thanks to the good folks at Redbones for this one. A good beer, but not sure I really liked the modification to the typical doppelbock. If I wanted smoke, I’d get a Rauchbier. Pours a nice amber brown with a thin head. Looks like a nice doppel... aroma was too skewed to the hoppy end of the spectrum. Very unbalanced for the style. The smoke was somewhat washed out by the overhopped flavor and aroma. Missing that sweet maltiness... the hops killed it. rustychiles (1057), Mesa, Arizona, USA

Pours a nice amber to reddish brown color with a small light brown head. Aroma of smoke, caramel, malts, bacon. Flavor is smoke, peat, roasted malts, bacon, toffee, nuts. Nice mouthfeel, touch of sweetness. Awesome smoked beer, perhaps my favorite smoked ever. Thanks a ton BeerAnd Blues. This brew rocks. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA
