| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 25, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep, near-opaque brownish black with the slightest hint of ruby highlights. Aroma of roasted malt and cocoa. Flavor is rich roasted malt and bittersweet chocolate, a hint of wood and pecan shell. Maybe a coffee-like note. Nice smooth mouthfeel, slightly thin, but good enough. Very nice. sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2008 bottle from some place in columbus. smells somewhat chocolatey, quite creamy. the alcohol content is totally surprising, cant really taste it at all. pretty decent though nothing too great. smooth. good slightly warm. oh wow, its labeled a sweet stout. definitely agree about that, but its the strongest by ABV ive ever had then. beerheart (237), Erie, Colorado, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 30, 2008 I found this disappointing. I like a good chocolate stout and enjoy Young’s, Stone’s, and the Fort Collins original chocolate stout. This poured watery. The roasted coffee aroma and flavor really overpowered that of the chocolate. sirpsycho (345), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 30, 2008 Bottle at the Headkeeper (Greensburg). Pours a very deep, dark brown, tan head. Aroma is chocolate, malt and a touch of roasted coffee in the background. Flavor serves up a slightly bitter chocolate and overly roasted malt profile. aplusbreaks (330), , Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 28, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a decent sized tan head and moderate lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, a bit of chocolate(more as it warmed) and peanut butter(I swear I smelled pb). Flavor is at first chocolate, then roasted bitter malts. Plate is a bit thin and oily, but overall not a bad beer. MAP (1089), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 27, 2008 I poured this one a good 20 minutes ago and let it sit next to me to warm up a little. I kept getting whiffs of chocolate and grains and I couldn’t wait any longer. The aroma really comes across with a rich roasted chocolate smell, deep and full bodied. The palate starts and ends with a very smooth viscous mouth feel. The middle of the beer has a bittersweet chocolate zing to it. The flavor is a smooth roasted chocolate that ends with a slight dryness in tangent with the viscous mouthfeel. kpresley77 (134), Jackson, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 27, 2008 Bottle courtesy of alraicercsu pours opaque black with thin quik disapating tan head. Aroma is dark roasted malt with a hint of some kind of fruit. First taste is roasted malt, then a slight coffee bitterness. The coffee taste lingers. Carbonation is nice but it is a little watery. More like a stout not very sweet. BeerBelcher (943), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 18, 2008 Not bad, but there is a ton of chocolate beers out of there and this beer is just not one of the best. The body is a touch thin, the aroma is pretty good, but the flavor offers, in addition to a good amount of chocolate roastiness, diacetyl and some weird sourness that I’ve noted before in beers with a lot of dark malt. Mouthfeel is a shade chalky, which is neither good nor bad, and is a touch thin, although it isn’t sticky (which is nice).
Not bad, but like I said, just not one of the best when the words "chocolate" and "beer" collide in my mind. I bought this as a single bottle in a mixed 6-pack from the Woodman’s in Oak Creek.
