ElJefe (506), Rochester, New York, USA Mar 26, 2008 Dark brown with a light brown head that leaves lacing clinging to the sides of the glass. Aroma of roasted coffee beans, chocolate, and caramel. Sweet, roasty flavor, with some bitterness in the finish. Somwhat chalky body, smooth carbonation.
TomDecapolis (2472), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 3, 2008 Pours a deep brown almost black with a smaller bubbly light tan head that left light lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate, coffee, nuts, caramel and light toffee. Flavor was a match of the aroma. nearbeer (1317), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 3, 2008 650 ml. Opaque with a one-finger head that settles to a lasting disc that leaves some soapy lace. Aroma is coffee, cocoa and light whiskey. Flavor is the same, plus some char and light spicy herb. Doesn’t seem to have quite enough caramel malt to provide a good balance to the strong burnt coffee taste. Medium body is smooth at first but has some carbonation flareup at the finish. Roasty, dry finish. A bit of a disappointment, as was the regular chocolate stout. ajm (369), California, USA Sep 29, 2008 Nice dark color - head could be browner. Nice roasty aroma and flavors primarily of older coffee and vodka. I am baffled at the classification as Sweet Stout. It really reminds me of Avery’s Out of Bounds - a dry stout. IMHO, this is what the regular Chocolate Stout should tatste like; the Double should be off the hook. ucusty (1204), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Sep 25, 2008 Dark brown pour with a airy tan head. Nice spotty lace. Oily mouth-feel. Roasty aroma. Roast coffee, and chocolate malts Paboucek (3), Overlan Park, Kansas, USA does not count Sep 23, 2008 dark, roasty , pours black. with beige head. Chocolate taste is very strong with a small amount of bitterness and caramel. These guys really like chocolate lol.
